Who is going to take all the bad shots now that Gordon is gone? I think this might mean Tyrus Thomas picks up the slack in that department. (Gulp)

Why would he want to stick it to the Bulls? It's a money thing. It's not like the Bulls have disrespected him or vice-versa.

he turned down a similar offer from the bulls that he just got from the pistons. he never acted like he wanted to be in chicago, and he was pissed about his playing time until he was basically forced into the starting lineup last year. everyone knew as soon as his contract was up he had no intentions on ever re signing. i dont see where hes going to get all this playing time in detroit though with rip and stuckey

If you've watched the Bull for the last 3 to 4 years, you'd know that the loss of B. Gordon is not a big deal. Don't let a few playoff games fool you.

Ideally the Bull would have freed up some extra cash to re-sign B. Gordon by trading K. Hienrich or simply not overpaying L. Deng a season ago.

As previously stated in the thread - prior to the '07 season the Bull gave B. Gordon a fair offer (and similar to what he signed with Detroit) and he turned it down.

He's a streaky shooter, garbage ball handler and an even worse defender.

Scorers in the NBA are a dime a dozen... B. Gordon will not be missed.

This Bull team should be focused on the growth of D. Rose.

if you dont like luol deng, kirk hinrich, john salmons, derrik rose and jokehim noah for your starters this year, then you might as well wait for 2010.

I don't think I'll miss Gordon. He could score 25 but he could also score 7. And either way his pitiful defense is giving up 20. So I think just about ANYONE is a significant defensive upgrade. I hate streaky perimeter guys anyhow.

I still wish the Bulls would have traded Gordon years ago. Now they let him walk away for nothing. The guy they wouldn't trade when his value was high leaves for nothing. Sounds good in hindsight, but Nas you're certainly more astute than that regarding NBA trades. As Bernstein would say - Trade him for who? Assuming he would've been part of a salary match you wouldn't have gotten much. Beyond that, as evidenced by the offers they made, the Bulls wanted to keep him during that period. The trades and performances of last year clearly changed their outlook. IMO, the Bulls were guilty of the common sin of proclaiming they wanted to keep a player they really didn't. Ultimately this loss will be judged by the players they bring in over the next 2 seasons (trade or free agent). God help us if Paxson/Forman pull a Krause and miss out on the big guys and we're left with another Ron Mercer.

This isn't something I just thought of now Zippy. I've been trying to trade Gordon to help bring in a star player for 4 years. I had a strong feeling what type of player he was and I was afraid the rest of the league would find out and it would be too late. Looks like they did.
I don't doubt you wanted him traded, but my question was for whom? I don't recall any strong trade rumors with BG as the key target - particularly for a "star" (as Deng allegedly was  ).

Man that is a small lineup. Are we going to run and gun next year?

That won't be the starting lineup. Barring a trade, they'll roll out Rose, Salmons, Deng, Tyrus, and Noah. Hinrich and Miller will pick up the rest of the minutes off the bench.

This is why Boers is an idiot. I've always said their basketball knowledge is way overrated. You're actually borderline retarded if you think the Bulls arent a worse team without Ben. They made the right decision in letting him walk for that type of cash, and he just got way overpaid and Dumars basically ruined the Pistons chance at a championship for the next 5 years, but without a doubt the Bulls are right now not as good a team as they were with him.

Id be willing to bet that the Bulls win just as many games this year as last year (unless there are catastrphic injury problems). For every time Gordon took over a game, there are probably twice as many times he shot them out of games.

Probably will win at least as many games but its narrow-sighted to think that that means they are just as good. Consider the fact Rose and Noah should be better players, especially Noah. Also since we got Salmons and Miller our team dramatically improved, and Hinrich was hurt alot of last year. I dont see how you think losing one of our best players for nothing makes us better. Gordon has alot of flaws but people get caught up in those flaws and his new contract and come to the dumb conclusion that he is a bad player. Ben Gordon is a good basketball player, and salaries excluded, makes a team better because he is on it.

You do bring up some valid points, but if Gordon is anything more than a spark off your bench you aren't a very good team. He's better than an average player, but he's not a difference maker over the course of a season.

He's a very strange player actually. He's good enough to make you a better team but he's not good enough to actually make you a great team.

The Bulls may not be as good as they would be with him, but they were never going to be great with him starting and he clearly didn't want the role of a bench player.

Maybe I'm wrong and Detroit becomes a serious contender next year but I think they'll be stuck in mediocrity as long as Gordon is starting for them.

I agree on all your points, but that was kinda my point also, and the reason I think Boers is an idiot. The Bulls are not as a good a team without him on the roster, but they would have been stupid to offer him anything near what he got. If he was more unselfish and understood his place and role in the league, he could have absolutely thrived as a 6th man on a contender, like Andrew Toney or Microwave Johnson did a few decades ago

I also think you're taking Boers too literally on this statement. I take his stance to mean that the Bulls would be a lower tier play-off team with or without BG.

Is that close to happening? I know the Hornets were also interested, and the Bulls are very limited in what they can offer financially (not that it will take much to land Pargo).

As long as it's a one year deal, I don't really care about this. He'll be the 4th guard, and used to provide a spark, come in and score some points quickly.

I know it's not going to happen with the Bulls financial situation, but I would have loved to get David Lee here. He doesn't seem to be getting much interest around the league, but he's a pretty solid garbage (as in, he's very active under the basket, and seems to put up a lot of numbers despite not running many plays for him) player.

Yeah I've heard unless Portland offers him the 5 year/$50 million he wants, he'll be stuck with a salary of $7-8 million a year. Thats a great price for a player like him. I'd rather have him than Gordon, especially for that type of cash. If he doesnt get at least the cash Charlie V got thatd be a shame.

Obviously I agree, but it concerns me a little that Rose's numbers didnt necessarily improve from November to April. I think Noah will average a double double next season or very close to it, so Im expecting him to continue making a substantial improvement. I have little doubt Rose will improve greatly in the next 2-3 years.
