This might sound not so pleasant, but you garnered a lower class of people as fans. People that dont care that your manager denogrates homosexuals and in general swears. This is what you get, fans without money then who go to few games.

As L Holmes just added in response to a caller boasting about the area around US Cellular, he said he did not feel comfortable walking into any of the places the caller named. Just so we are all clear, Holmes meant to say these are places that black people are not welcome.

1. Kenny Williams deserves respect he built a championship team.
2. Last time I looked the area surrounding the "cell" wasn't exactly Honkey town.
3. A lower class of fan  it's asswipes like you that give ammo to cubbie haters.
4. Why should fans be excited about a mediocre team.
5. I hope Ronnie Woo Woo Pees on your chinos.

I had to go back and look at the title of this thread as I heard LH talking about this and I thought it cause a stir. So when I signed on and saw Good Dolphin's thread with RACIST in the title I figured that was what it was about. OK, it wasn't.
I roll into the next thread and there it is.

I think what Laurence said was that the Sox fan base would never grow because He feels uncomfortable walking into the places around The Cell, that people always say are great places to go before a game. And He is right. No matter how close the Cell is to the Projects.

Laurence is dead on target.....the only bar in that area that advertises to the White Sox Fan is Cobblestones.
There are many joints in Bridgeport that you walk into and see the 'regulars'.
Middle aged city workers who NEVER EVER make outsiders feel welcome no matter what their race.

That area is so depressed. You walk towards the park and pass people who look to be strung out and in tattered clothing. It's just a disgusting area. The ballpark is fine. I go to a few games there each year, but I hate the area. You go to Wrigleyville and it's just a fun atmosphere. Bars and resturants full of people having a great time. You go to the cell and it's just awful. Too bad the town of Addison voted not to have the park there. It would have been much better there, for all concerned.

They should have built the damned thing in the South Loop.
I wouldn't describe the area around The Cell as disgusting.
I would describe a lot of the taverns in the area with an underlying hostility to outsiders.
They value their regulars who want to glare at people rather than cater to the Sox Fans.

As a lifelong Sox Fan, there is no way in hell I can deny that the area around Wrigley Field is a party paradise and Halsted Street in Bridgeport is pretty much a dump.

I know. Steve makes it seem like a warzone though. Having parked a number of times at least a mile from the park and walked, I can attest to the relative safety of the nieghborhood.

Yeah, its not much to look at, but the Bridgeport area and Sox attendence are 2 of the deadest motherfucking horses in all of sports. Doesn't surprise me that Steve and spanky get off on that, however.

Of all the White Sox games I've been to, I've never actually been to a bar in that area. We normally go to another area, then hit the El, and then go right to the ballpark.

It always makes me wonder why the options there are so bad. With all the gentrification of Chicago I guess that area missed it. It seems like the area around US Cellular would be a great place to create a center of alcoholism.

Halsted and 35th have some more restaurants and such popping up. CJH were out at Buffalo Wings & Rings two weeks ago for the Cubs/Sox series. It was really hopping and hard to find parking. Obviously it doesn't compare to Wrigleyville, but there was definitely a party atmosphere that Friday afternoon.
