This is obviously a HUGE series, that will help determine if the Cubs are going to repeat as division Champions. The Cubs will have their hands full in game 1, as Chris Carpenter pitches in game 1 for the redbirds. Carpenter is 6-3 and has a sparkling 2.32 ERA. He will be faced by Rich Harden, who so far has amassed a 5-5 record with a less than impressive 5.35 ERA. Game 1 does not look like it offers the best match-up. However, in game #2 its All-Star Ted Lilly (8-6 3.32) going against Brad Thompson 2-5 4.92. Then in the 2 games on Sunday, it's Adam Wainwright (9-5 3.09) and Kyle Lohse (4-4 3.99) vs Randy Wells (4-3...won his last 4 starts in a row, 2.48) and Carlos Zambrano (4-4 3.47) It would be silly to call for a swep, especially with the match-up in game one and the way the offense has been sputtering. But You have to like their chances in the games Lilly and Wells will pitch and if Z is on, he can dominate any team. In any case, it won't be dull.

I will be pounding the Cardinals today and the Cubs tomorrow. It looks like easy money on both.

It will most likely be Wells v. Wainright early Sunday, which is a great matchup. I love Zambrano to beat Lohse coming off the DL on Sunday night...so the real swing matchup of this series is Sunday afternoon.

That's exactly how I see it. I believe that the Wells/Wainwright game will be the best match-up. That game could swing the series to the Cubs. Wells has been outstanding, getting 4 wins in a row and showing a lot of confidence. Wainwright is really good, but he has had a few rough outings during the season and the Cubs have faced him many times, while the Cardinals have never faced Wells yet. That's the game I am most interested in seeing.

I don't care how it breaks down matchup wise, the Cubs have to win a minimum of 3 out of 4 or it's over. Yes I know that if we split we would still be 3.5 back, but we also have the brewers to over take, which in essence means we are 6 games out.

However, it doesn't matter if we win 3 of 4 or even sweep if after the all star break we come out and piss the bed and lose 3 of the first 4.

This team is in desperate need of an 8 game winning streak and I don't think they are capable of it.

Another Soriano misplay, turning a double into a triple. Its time he sits for a week. Harden again is bad today, we will be lucky to get 5 out of him.

Down 3-0 with Carp on the mound, not a good sign.

The Cubs are sure lucky that Lee is hitting the ball lately.

Nice inning by Harden.

Let's capitalize on momentum now.

One time guys.

I've seen enough Soriano for the weekend. Sit him until after the break. He's just not getting it.

Roid-face with another homer. I don't know why anyone pitches to him.

Harden is becoming a liability. Over 100 pitches in 5 innings again.

No shit, right? Let him walk most of the time like Bonds did - and he is on some shit that's ahead of the MLB testing technology like Bonds was. Terribly inflated numbers...

Come on guys, why is it not possible that he's not just a freakin awesome hitter?

Because he came out of nowhere and was a star from day one. He should pass Maris, which that is suspicious. Fucking Soriano leaves 2 on base again.

But they tested in the minors, he wasn't using roids then and the fact he's been so consistant from day 1 tells me he's NOT juicing.

No good reason to bring Heilman in when the game is close. There is a reason why the Mets and Mariners didn't want him after last season. Throw a strike you old fuck.

Why is Heilman still on this roster?

We can't find anyone else to walk the bases loaded?

I fucking hate this guy.

Agree, he is the right handed Cotts. Never throws strikes, 3 walks in a third of an inning so far. When he came in I knew the Cardinals were having a big inning. Fucking Soriano drops another ball, should be a 2nd error of the game, but he still won't have one. Sit his ass for the rest of the weekend. He is killing this team in the field and at the plate.

Heilman and Soriano are huge pieces of shit. If the Cubs had balls they would release Soriano, like the Blue Jays did with Ryan. Thats a move you can respect.
