Sox have runners at second and third with nobody out and the Subway Vigilante decides to pull the damned ball......sacrifice fly is what it turns out to be.
Is there anyone there to tell Getz his job is to try and drive the damned ball up the middle?
The only ones listening to Ed Farmer when he says "Keep the line moving" are the fans.
The home run or nothing style of offense tires me out.
Second and third...no one out and the Sox score one whole run.
This style of baseball is pathetic.

Getz did his job by getting 1 in and 1 over. The failure was on ROY and Wise for not getting the runner in from third.

This is the 4th straight season of this kind of nonsense.
A damned single and Getz does his job even better.

Bob, of all the things with which to be aggravated last night, this is not one of them. His job is to get a run in and he did. And like Keyser said, he also advanced the other runner a base. He did his job. The other guys failed.

Chris, this kind of stuff just rips your heart out....2nd and 3rd with no one out...they get one run....how about a single with men on 2nd and 3rd once in awhile?

What ever happened to the rally?
You would think a pitcher might be in a bit of trouble with 2nd and 3rd with none out followed by a single and a walk.
2 men on...3 straight outs.....

No kidding. Getz smoked that ball. It was a hell of a catch. He got one in and one over. He did it on an 0-2 count which makes it more impressive.

By the way, Getz has really improved. I think he's hitting like .320 in his last 20 games or something like that.

I admit I'm a moron, but they got one whole run out of an inning with second and third and no one out.
I guess Getz thinks he is Joe Morgan or Ryne Sandberg.
A single just might score 2 runs and keep the inning going.
Situational baseball...not home run or nothing...but like I say, I'm a moron who fell off a turnip truck outside of Jimbo's.

Great....now somebody tell him he is not Joe Morgan.

Bob, it is not Chris Getz fault they didn't rally. He drove in a run and advanced the other runner. You're mad at the wrong guy. Why aren't you upset with Beckham for not getting the hit in the next at-bat? Or with Wise?

The bottom of the lineup is really producing a lot of runs but I'd feel a little better with 6 or 7 more. Gavin looks real good early.

Bottom of the order gets another run. This offense is going to score a TON of runs in the 2nd half if this keeps up.

I am, Chris....and the situational hitting problem is not confined to the Sox.

All seem to be lost arts with all baseball teams.
I attribute it to dad's coaching in Little League
with no concept of the game.
The Steroid era-HR's get the big contracts!
weak ML managers who allow sloppy play.

That's true, Bob. "Playing" the game of baseball seems to be a lost art. Does anyone really teach fundamentals anymore?

ROY is getting paid back for all the tough luck he's been hitting in the past week. 3-3 with a walk and a couple runs scored. I think he should be moved to the 2-hole after the all-star break. With the return of Quentin and (hopefully) a new starter this team can really take off.

I can't argue with you there, Keyser. Baseball was meant to be played outside. When the Baggie goes, it will be good riddance to bad rubbish.

As far as your batting order goes, too me, Bacon seems to be the prototypical #2 hitter right now. I like what I see of the kid, so far. He looks like he has a innate feel for the game, which is refreshing in this day and age. You guys are lucky.

I was at one Twins game there and will never have to return.
In the warm months there are all kinds of food and drink stands outside the dump because folks don't want to go in until the last minute.
Vikings are stuck there, as University of Minnesota opens on campus outdoor stadium this season.

Mr. Reason GETZ my point....I am not reinventing the wheel.
I guess all the money involved is destroying the game as it should be played.
Chris Getz does not have to be swinging for the fences when a single puts more pressure on the defense and the pitcher in that situation.
"Playing the Game."
Ichiro comes to mind.

Even an Aggravated Fan like me is CAUTIOUSLY optimistic this team can jell.
Schedule gets tough.

I couldn't agree with you more, Bob. There is and always has been a way to "play the game". It goes by many names. But, in essence, it is winning baseball. And increasingly over the last 20 years, it is being played less and less. It chaps my ass.

Jimmy, you are on the mark.
How about working the count...productive outs..like Getz actually had last night.....even though I am bitching and moaning why he just didn't take the pitch up the middle....how about more of those "good at bats" where the hitter fouls off pitches and makes the pitcher work his ass off...throw 10 pitches.......hit and run..hit behind the runner....don't hack at the first pitch after the pitcher has walked two guys in front of you....

I hated guys like Rod Carew, Wade Boggs and Paul Molitor....they used to destroy the Sox and they weren't swinging for the fences...they have something called the Hall of Fame in common.

Bob, not sure we'll see the likes of them again. Very few of the current crop seem to have "it".

The Twins have messed with the Sox since they arrived in Minnesota from Washington.

I was at U.S. Cellular Field this past Thursday afternoon vs. the Indians, and Chris Getz had a career-high 4 hits in 5 at-bats, with the fifth being a walk. Even though the batting average isn't as good as I'm sure he & the White Sox would like, I can tell you that Chris is the kind of ballplayer Ozzie wishes he had more of on his roster. You don't expect Getz to hit home runs, but he puts the ball in play at the plate and actually is a threat to steal a base or two. Getz has for the most part played a steady second base defensively, and the Sox are more than happy with that. Tonight, Ozzie started Jayson Nix ahead of Getz at second base because the Twins started a lefty, Glen Perkins. Although Jayson went 2-for-5 in the Sox 8-7 win tonight in Minnesota, in the limited times Chris has started vs. lefties, he's shown he can hit them as well, if not better than righties. Unless Ozzie wants to finally come clean and admit that second base is really a platoon, Chris should be the everyday starter, regardless who starts for the opponents.
