the show sounds forced because they are trying to find their voice. they are trying too hard. like doug said, w&s didn't sound good at all when they first started; i actually think mac and spiegel sound better already, but of course they're trying too hard. it's not natural yet.

i think they'll get there...

Kerry is much better on T.V. and has always been a sweetheart when I have ran into her at Hawks games. No interest in her other than hockey chat and she doesn't know me from Costanza anyway. :P
.
As far as the show goes it's a good listen but I have had not much time to tune in and like many of you, my mornings are very busy and hectic of late and I can not devote the time I did when Mac was on in the afternoon. A couple of hours a week is about all I get to sample. I have sent a few emails in but that's about it.

When football starts up you'll get a whole different angle of what the show is all about but again throwing the show under the bus after 4 weeks is kind of stupid.

Wow, when I posted this thread I figured there would be a couple people that agreed at most. From reading the responses it seems like even the most ardent Mack als'er can barely muster up even feint praise.

And I think its great that I wasn't the only person who noticed the Mack/Coppick impersonation thing going on.

Also, totally agree with the last poster who said it's really weak to call it the Danny Mack Show when there are two full time hosts. Seriously, that's beyond tacky. I bet they are doing that so Spiegel can't ask for more money now or in the near future.

My view of the show is just the opposite. It's not getting better--it's getting worse.

What's funny to me is that prior to the show's inception, Mac posted here to trumpet Spiegel's "sports brain" as well as the personal warmth that he would bring to the air. After listening to this train wreck for a month, though, it strikes me that both of these qualities appear to be weaknesses, not strengths. While he has forceful opinions on many sports topics, Spiegel has made more dumb arguments (Soriano, Piniella, HOF, some of his Bulls thoughts) than Jesse Rogers could muster in an entire year. And contrary to Mac's prediction, Spiegel's "warmth" hasn't helped draw out any new dimensions of Mac's personality, perhaps because it seems so excessive and disingenuous.

When I first learned that Mac had picked Spiegel to be his new partner, I was pretty surprised and surmised that he did so as a reaction to the personal enmity that had developed between himself and Harry as MJH slowly disintegrated. While Mac was obviously confident Spiegel and he eventually would produce good radio together, I think he allowed his pursuit of a comfortable working relationship to cloud his judgment of Spiegel's abilities. Now the show seems stuck in neutral with no readily apparent way to shift gears and establish momentum.

One thing I will say is that both Mac and Spiegel are much more entertaining when they are edgy as opposed to complacent or cloyingly "warm." They need to do a better job of cultivating engaging conversational tension within their relationship and in the way they relate to B&B.

What a shock.

i still think what you're saying points to growing pains more than anything else. but we'll see. keep in mind i only get to listen to about 20 minutes of them a day, so i don't have a total grasp on how they're growing in a 4 hour span. but what i've heard, it sounds better to me. flows better. at times it still sucks, and spiegel still gets on my nerves but i'm willing to see what happens. if it still sounds the same in 6 months, i'd probably give up on it.

I listened to this show all week last week. It's reasonable at best. Thats not a big compliment considering the Score was bringing in the great Danny Mac.

If I hear Matt push himself away from the mic or turn off his mic and continue yelling or laughing in the background one more time, I'm going to shoot myself. Its not hard to carry a conversation with each other without screaming or trying to throw in your tired one liners.

Neither of you are comedians and shouldnt try to be. If you were looking to go relatively cheap and have a guy who actually is listenable as your partner, I think Brian Paruch (sp) was the way to go. He understands how to talk into a mic and doesnt feel the need to force himself into conversations.

After having a few months off I expected a lot more from Mac and its just not there. I dont care how good you think your conversation with "the Sodfather" was, it was not compelling in the least. Follow that up with the suicide inducing, Aaron Poreda. (Great four headed exec producing !?!?!?!) Take the Tony Kornheiser approach and bring on people who can talk/write and do so for a living. Go get beat writers and columnists. I never need to hear another player interviewed again.

Thank god Stern is back tomorrow because a second week of this and I would have thrown in the towel on the show.

Not sure who had the bright idea to interview him, but it was WGN dull.

On a curious note, I recall about a year ago, a caller on B&B said that there was this article on the Sodfather in some magazine and Bernsy quickly cut her off and said that his listeners weren't interested in landscaping.

Completely agree! Aside from AJ Pierzinski there isn't a single athlete in town I EVER want to hear on the radio. They are all paint-dry-watching boring. And that doesn't just go for Chicago athletes, that's pretty much the rule of thumb for ALL athletes. But, especially Bears players, who always sound like they just got woken up from a nap. Hockey players are just as bad, not sleepy but just way way too bland to ever be on the radio.

Kornheiser totally had it right when he wouldn't let any athletes on his show. Having reporters and columnists on is so much better because they aren't afraid to actually say something.

Thank you SP mack...I always knew you were a closet Nas hater...its a great club!

Anyway....I really think Mac has a lot of talent and the ability to do very good radio. I am just very unimpressed with the show as presently constructed. Its scares me that this was his best idea (maybe the best workable idea) because what were the other options he said, "nah I dont see that working?"

I used to be a huge MJC fan and I thought it was because Mac was the best in the business. He would piss me off from time to time when he tell us how he was blue collar one minute and then talk about his twenty TV’s the next. But after hearing the Danny Mac show I have realized that Harry and Jurko really made the show. Mac we all know that you think “The Score” is your baby but stop talking about it. Stop taking shots at the Afternoon Saloon, Harry, Jurko, Waddle and Silvy (who are kicking your ass) and ESPN in general. It just comes off as bitter.

I'd like to see Matty join the Mac show and see what happens until the year is up. Mac and the (Door?)Matts. And when Spiegs is on vacation, don't have a fill-in to see if excising him making sense in 2010. Jason moves up to exec producer on B&B. Matt and Jason have earned it.

Did anyone catch Hit & Run this morning with Spiegel & Schuster?
Spiegel mentioned that he will be on H&R every Sunday morning.
I suppose he was a little easier to take on this show compared to the Mac show, but my biggest problem with Spiegel, other than his game show host DJ voice and stupid comments, is that it seems like he is void of any original thoughts...like he is trying too hard to come up with facts & figures.
The new Score lineup has already proived to be a dud abd WSCR will once again get their ass handed to them by AM1000.
No matter what Mitch trys or does, it is wrong. Maybe Drew Hayes will beceome part of the hiring & programming decision making process, because the next good hire and/or decision that Mitch makes will be his first.

Once again,I listened a little today & thought Mat did a fine job. They pair him
with a KC Johnson. Not doing Mat any favors, but he kept it moving.

I thoroughly enjoyed the albatross talk today (referring to Soriano as an albatross for the Cubs). Where else can you hear something like that? 8) And like the Unaffordable Dave Miska mentioned, I couldn't help but think of the Iron Maiden "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" song.
