All I can say as a father of two grown children, time goes by very fast.
Soon Dan's kids will reach the point where they will be grown & maybe
hangin with the folks will not be a priority. Big Deal he took a week off.
Better now then in the middle of BEARS SEASON,my friend!

Work at the same company for 30 years 20 years in management, I wouldn't have hired him in the first place. How old are you 32 or 33?
This is probably the single dumbest comment I have seen. Who cares how long you have been doing something and how old you are? In case you are wondering I am 26 and am pretty confident with your mentality I can run circles around you.
And what do you do for a living?

And you would have been told to hit the bricks yourself by whoever is your boss. Unless you're your own boss, and then in that case you'd just go out of business due to poor management skills.

You wouldn't have hired a guy for asking for his daughter's birthday off? That's awesome. Neither 32 nor 33, nor younger even.
How many of us remember their 3rd birthday??????????

No I wouldn't hire you or give you a bonus...if you are that fucking good why do you need two jobs? Experience does mean something.

Experience does mean a lot. Thats the first solid point you've made.

To answer your question...My primary job was originally a 32 hour a week gig...So I got a night job. Then I had a daughter. Making that formerly extra money...extremely vital.

I can live pretty well off my main job. But I live better off 2.

No, sometimes when you have a job, you absolutely CANNOT do whatever you want, whenever you want, family or not--quite the contrary. HOWEVER, it seems to me the real point here is, this was all discussed and arranged with his employers beforehand, so what are we arguing about?

It sounds like this show has some other real issues to talk about rather than debating a pre-arranged, pre-approved-by-all-parties-involved vacation. Plus, he did explain all this on the air before he left because he knew the timing might sound odd to some. (On that count, he was certainly correct.)

I'm not going to get into who has a better job debate. I think its incredibly stupid to say, oh yeah well I have been doing this forever (30 years in your case). I tell my boss on a weekly basis, just because that's how the company operated in 1979, doesn't mean that's how we should operate today. My favorite part of your comment was the how old are you statement. I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything. I would venture to guess that there are plenty of guys in their 20's and 30's who are exceptional at their occupation. Making comments like that makes you sound like a grumpy old man with no perspective on what its like to lead a happy life inside and outside of work.

Isn't one judge by what they have done over their total life? Not just bits and pieces, I guess the old adage with age come wisdom doesn't apply(Ooops an old adage) I believe it was Richard Pryor that said he knew alot of 20-30 year old smart asses dead as a motherfucker

I believe it was RFDC who fist said "you're an asswipe," and truer words have never been spoken on this board.

So he takes this trip every year. So it's probably planned way way in advance, probably puts his name on the cabin for the next year maybe even pays for it when he leaves. Schedules what 4?
plane tickets well in advance. I'm guessing it's probably not a cheap vacation. Talks it over with his boss and friend when he is hired and given the ok. BUT since the show only started 4 weeks ago he should piss that all away............I think not.

Before he took off, Mac tried to explain why he took vacation time 4 weeks into his new show. I think it was planned well before the show launched June 15th.
