Bad enough that Fozie plays awful defense, makes base running mistakes (another tonight) and will not shorten up his swing to advance a runner or sacrifice....but the guy can't even hit for power these days either. June 7th in an extra inning game vs the Reds, Soriano hit his last long ball. Hendry has to be sorry he signed this dog.

If the Blackhawks can fire their GM, the Cubs really need to fire Hendry for all his fuckups.

+1!!!!

It fucking amazes me how much slack Cub fans give Hendry "because the Cubs won back-to-back divisions".

Who gives a shit?!

This Soriano deal is going to screw this team until they can unload him. And it sure as hell won't be an NL team. Some sort of Sosa-like deal will have to happen so he can go be a DH somewhere. And I don't even know if that scenario is plausible.

He's been living off the fumes of the Ramirez/Lee salary dump trades for waaaaay too long.

I can't stand that fat fuck. He needs to go grab a shinebox.

Bad signings in the past few years:
Soriano
Fukadome
Bradley
Dempster....he's good, but not for the money.
Zambrano....again, good-Great at times, but way too much money for the production.

It adds up to a LOT of money that was foolishly spent.

Hendry is a good guy but is proving to be a shitty GM. Think about the payroll he has had to work with.

I think one of his biggest problems is he wants to be liked by the players....so he treats them "right"...but at a high cost with bad contracts and no trade clauses and promises to bat lead off, etc...

I haven't played softball in 5 years and I am amazed to realize that I have the exact same number of homers in the last 5 weeks as Soriano does.

Lets not forget that he decided to "solidify" our closers spot this year by bringing in Kevin Gregg. Went into camp with only one lefty in the pen in Cotts and got exposed on that early. Signed Gaudin to an offer sheet just to cut him. Traded Marquis for a bad reliever making 5 mil dollars just to pay him to go away and then Marquis becomes an All-Star. Ignored 4 legitmately better choices for right field and rushed to sign and vastly overpay for Bradley. Decided that Fontenot earned a spot to be an everyday 2nd basemen and traded away DeRosa to free up money for Bradley and then had his insurance plan be the absolutely worthless Aaron Miles. And as a cherry on top of this crap sundae he still hasn't addressed the fact that this team has needed a true leadoff hitter/table setter for the past 3 f'n seasons. Great work Jim OBVIOUSLY you are on quite a hot streak.

Really good, detailed list of mistakes. Can't argue with the new owners (Ricketts or other) if they decided to make a change in the GM position.

Unfortunately, should the Cubs win this division again, many would gloss over his mistakes and choose to celebrate having repeated as division champs yet again. The mistakes made over the past few years will serve to hamstring this team for several years to come.

I have been dared to by Frank to post something in a Cubs thread that I said in the Dan Ma Ne forum and that is that I think Frank is probably one of the most brutally honest Sox fans that posts things about the Cubs - for the MOST part.
This excludes rants with Elmhurst Steve and potshots, but I find his evaluations for the most part to be spot on.

Granted, they come with a slightly Sox vent, but it's hard to disagree with alot of what he says.

What do I win Frank?

Kinda like when you called into to MJH to say Cubs back to back titles were the best part of 08????

But if they win the division, doesn't it matter what they do in the playoffs?

If the Cubs do win a division title this year, then some of those mistakes, Bradley, Soriano, Gregg will probably be an important reason why they win the division. Then they may not be as big as mistakes as they appear right now.

While at this moment Hendry's offseason can rightly be called a disaster, the season is only half over. A division title is still very much possible. If Bradley and Soriano get hot the second half and the Cubs make the playoffs, then shouldn't our perception of Hendry change for the positive?

And really, thats what this season is all about, getting to the playoffs. I don't care if they only win 83 games, just get to the playoffs. Then you take your chances.

Of course if they don't win the division, then you can tar and feather Hendry for all I care.

The 2008 season was a great season. they had an outstanding team, that repeated as division champs, had 97 wins, led the entire league in wins....it was an exceptionally good season.

That said, since the season ended (after a disappointing post-season) Hendry's moves have served to weaken, not strengthen this team. Trading DeRosa was a huge mistake that left the team vulnerable at 3rd, which bit them in the ass, as well as having a weaker everyday 2nd baseman (where DeRo would be, except for games he would have shifted over to 3rd, after Ram's injury) He chose Bradley, over Ibanez or Abreau (both better alternatives). Failed to get a true leadoff hitter....again. The worst part of it, is that Hendry had ADDED payroll, while making this team weaker. Had he weakened the team due to cuts in payroll, it would be easier to understand, but he just made bad decisions.

The Phillies had a better 2008. So did the Rays.

The Phillies had a better POST-SEASON, as did the Rays. The Cubs had the best regular season of all teams in the National League, with the Angels being the only team in the AL to best their regular season record.

The Sox bent on Frank's posts are usually too much for my taste and the potshots are just asinine. That's the missing link aspect to fandom that I loathe.
When he wants to, he can make a point that, while brusque, is correct.
The posts made with a smirk however will get the dreaded and deserved
