The moderator or admin of that message board posted a note on how Spaceball may have resigned from WMVP and 94.7-FM.

The admint, "ja-ja" is very active on the board, making sure no garbage is posted (and if it is, it's taken off immediately). Kind of makes me wonder if Jeff really did leave though, in light of his recent surgery, as stated in Feder's column today.

He's gone. Both Mac and Bruce Levine referenced Adam as the new program director.

I guess Spaceball and I can't do an end around on Tiny and take over Fantasy Football Island on Sunday mornings this Fall now.

Jeff Schwartz aka Spaceball resigned, due to health issues (Feder reported that he had an angioplasty in today's paper). None of the three amigos were happy to announce this.

Adam Delevette and his sculpted eyebrows is now the acting Program Director - even though Spaceball was the Operations Manager.

I think that sums it up.

The day after the ugly June 9 on-air exchange between Dan McNeil and Harry Teinowitz of "Mac, Jurko&Harry," WMVP-AM 1000 program director Jeff Schwartz felt sick. So sick that he had a panic attack.

"I don't know if that caused it," Schwartz said of the McNeil-Teinowitz spat. "But I'm an emotional person."

Yes, Schwartz lived his job. So in some ways it's surprising that the 57-year-old Chicago radio veteran has decided to leave his post after just 10 months with no other offer in hand.

But in other ways it's no surprise. Asked Thursday to comment on rumors his departure was imminent, Schwartz instead asked for privacy.

The panic attack had prompted him to take an angiogram, which showed significant blockage in his arteries and led to angioplasty.

Even while ill Schwartz wasn't unhappy.

"The two weeks off were wonderful," he said. "They gave me time to reflect. And you know what? It just wasn't worth it. I'm tired of working 17 hours a day. I'm sure lot of people are upset, but the silver years of my life should be about me."

Schwartz's brief stint at WMVP was marked by the hiring of Sean Salisbury and Steve Rosenbloom for the 9 a.m.-noon show. The tandem pushed Mark Silverman and Carmen DeFalco to nights.

McNeil and Teinowitz also served lengthy suspensions on Schwartz's watch, but Schwartz wasn't responsible for that. General manager Jim Pastor and ABC/ESPN Radio executives handled it.

Pastor said he would miss Schwartz because "he's so full of passion … the reason it was a 17-hour day for Jeff is that he was going to do it until he did it right."

Counterpart Mitch Rosen, program director at WSCR-AM 670, called Schwartz "a pioneer of sports radio. There's a lot of respect there."

Pastor said he would begin an immediate search for Schwartz's replacement.

They never use him anyway. At this point I think Hood is only a contract employee. It is a shame that his talent is going unnoticed in this city. He served his penance for the Telander fiasco. Now it is time that he had a regular shift.

Just curious ... what was the Telander fiasco? I never listened to Telander when he was on The Score...

Pretty much the whole show was the fiasco. It was Telander, Buffone and Hood. Needless to say, it was an uncomfortable show that failed miserably and Hood was the big victim in the fallout, in my opinion.

I'm not so sure it was that unexpected, though the listerners weren't really given notice. The show was a disaster and my understanding is that people that know Telander expected him to bail within 6 mos. I haven't heard how much of it was his own bailing or management going in another direction, quickly, but it came to a merciful close not a day too soon. It was painful.

It was my understanding that he took management by surprise. But at the very least, his co-hosts were unaware.

Hood was quite annoyed that he wasnt tabbed to handle the role alone with Doug. He showed his displeasure with the way he acted toward Rick on the air. Rick would try to ask him about something and J would either not answer or just act like a complete dick. Most people think J was no renewed at the Score and was banished to weekends after the show feel apart because of his attitude and treatment of Telander.

You guys are missing the most important point. Before Telander was a thought in anyone's head Hood was promoted to the slot from evenings with the show bearing his name. Soon after Telander was hired and the show was renamed the Rick Telander Show. Telander often came in uprepared to discuss anything more than what was or was going to be the subject of his column. Hood was rightfully angry but was totally unprofessional on the air.

Oh, yeah! I forgot about the fact that he showed up after Hood was on in that time slot (I think maybe for only a couple of weeks or so, though, but I could be wrong) and the show was his and his name only all of the sudden. I didn't listen to it much, so I missed Hood being outwardly cold and hostile during the show.

You also forgot the "Afternoon Show just gotta smarter" ad campaign. I could see how that would offend Hood. Doug probably didn't comprehend it and wasn't offended.

The only problem with that was the fact that the ads didn't say 'the show' got smarter, they said 'sportsradio' or 'the Score' just got smarter - so in a roundabout way, they were saying all of their listeners were a bunch of dolts.

The thing was a mess from Day One.

And even more ironic was sometimes Tea-Lander would talk about the most stupid inane stuff - I could actually hear Doug's few remaining brain cells dying off by the minute. So obviously Dougie wasn't getting smarter.

J-Hood gave the show energy - as Rick lulled Doug (and the listeners to sleep) as he thank out loud.

I also enjoyed how he would go down the show schedule that the producer probably gave him: "At 4:02 we'll have so and so on... at 4:42 we'll have the AD of Dartmouth University on..."

Chicago sportsradio listeners stopped snoozing while driving the day Telander quit.

North finished afternoons, then for two weeks, it was Hood and Buffone, before Telander arrived.

But the move shouldn't have come to a surprise to no one, since earlier that summer, there were rumors going around that WSCR was bringing in Telander for afternoons. Unless management specifically told Hood "the Telander rumors are untrue, the afternoon spot is now yours," then I don't really think he had a right to act the way he did.

Telander being unprepared. Hood should have dealt with it professionally, that way, Telander would be the fool and Hood would look better. Instead, they both came off bad.

I think Hood deserves a regular slot... night times with Silvy or at 10p would be cool with me. He can be entertaining.

Contempt, I agree with you. Hood deserved his punishment. However, he served his time and now he should be restored to a position that his talent deserves.

I get pissed thinking about the result of his actions. I think Hood would have been a great and natural fit doing White Sox pre and post. He would have matched or exceeded Wills, who was the last guy to make me want to listen to pre and post.

Good point. Another reason why WSCR should have kept Hood. Nights when the White Sox are off... what's with the Score shuffle of hosts? Perfect spot for Hood. Was established and there were plenty of people who would listen cause they liked him. Enough said.
