That's a damn good team Sox beat tonite. Going to game tomorrow, hopefully, Richard can get out of the second inning in this one.

Glad to see Guillen bench pathetic Fields for Thome. I don't care if he hasn't played in awhile, he looked pathetic!

Runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs and a 2 - 0 count, PK should've have went to RF with that outside fastball, instead of pulling it into a double play. They won, though.

Even Jenks looks bad when you give a team 4 outs in an inning. Yeah, he walked 2 guys but PeterPan owes Bobby several rounds at the bar.

Once again, Bobby Jenks walked a tightrope in the top 9th, but somehow pulled a rabbit out of his hat by getting the save in the White Sox 4-3 win over the Rays...

Rays: only 2-4 in stolen bases and Zobrist should have been called out on a pickoff in the 9th

Podsednik: 3-3 with a walk, SB and 2 runs scored. He also cost them a run by playing an out (or at most a double) into an inside the park homer.

He was consistently hitting 94 and put up a 95 in his last inning after topping 100 pitches. Still, Paulie was all over that fastball all night and was a few feet from having a two homer night. Dye was on it as well. When he threw the change he made Dye look stupid on two occasions. As you correctly stated, just wait him out and make him throw a strike.

Pods also played a lineout into a single in the top of the 9th.

SHARK...you are aware there is another Joshua Fields in MLB that actually goes by Joshua? cuz the White Sox player goes by Josh...I dont even know if his name is actually Joshua

I would think you, of all people, would get the guys name right.

Nancy would have gotten it right. Andrew probably would too.

no apologies needed SHARK

and yes...he's rated better

Finally, the Seattle Mariners signed their first-round draft pick of 2008. Sure, he's not a starting pitcher or a big bat in the lineup, but he is a future lights-out closer.

Every team needs a closer, that's obvious. But it's even more important to have a good one on staff, one that can save a game for the team. Could Joshua Fields arrive in Spring Training and dominate his way to being the every-day closer in 2009?

Yes, he can, but it sure won't be easy. The other candidates are Mark Lowe, Miguel Batista, Roy Corcoran, Tyler Walker, Tyler Johnson, David Aardsma, and Cesar Jimenez.

Could Joshua Fields become the Seattle Mariners 2009 Closer?

Yes No vote to see results If Brandon Morrow somehow doesn't win a job in the starting rotation, he will be the favorite to be the future closer. Of course, we can't knock out reliever Shawn Kelley out of the mix just yet. He is young and effective.

Fields is said to have the same type of throw as Tim Lincecum, only as a closer not a starter. Is Joshua Fields the next Jonathan Papelbon? Brad Lidge? Francisco Rodriguez? I think so, as rarely does a closer get picked so early in the draft, if ever, so we all know that Joshua Fields is a special case.

He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2007, but never signed, and there were fears present of that happening with the Seattle Mariners.

So just keep your eye on the young Joshua Fields, but don't expect him to emerge as the closer in 2009, although he could.

Good luck Joshua Fields, you finally signed!

The two CS by AJ were not even close. He had both guys thrown out before they even began their slides. I wonder what was different about yesterday?

Floyd quick pitched on the Crawford attempt to slow the jump and AJ's throw was absolutly perfect. Crawford slid right into the ball. Throwing him out at third was another bad jump cuz our pitcher paid attention to the runner.

being at the game, Crawford looks incredibly fast and I don't remember Podsednik ever looking as flat out fast as he currently does...he was ready to turn his one single into a double

I dunno. I hope I'm wrong, but I'll still stick with 12.

I agree. That's why I don't get why he's like 13-21 on stolen base attempts. He should have that same 40-50 ratio he had in the first half of 2005. Part of it is he's just not stealing cuz our middle has been so hot. Doesn't need to risk it. He's scoring anyway. Alexi advanced him a base twice yesterday.

danks to miss wen start...rookie taking his place

Chicago White Sox left-handed pitcher John Danks will miss his start on Wednesday due to a blister and circulatory problem in his left index finger.

Danks was sent to Rush Medical Center for tests.

The Sox training staff believes Danks will not have to go on the disabled list and will most likely miss only one start.

Losing Danks for an extended period would be a big blow for the White Sox. He is 8-6 with a 3.98 ERA.

Carlos Torres will be promoted from Triple-A Charlotte and get the start on Wednesday. A roster move will be made before Wednesday's game to make room for Torres.

Nice inning by Clayton. He's defintely pitching faster than he did the last few outings. Hopefully he has 8 more innings like that in him because I don't want to see that bullpen at all.
