Im not calling for the guy to start. But this team is only carrying one catcher right now, plus Jake Fox. If Hill goes down, I don't want a guy behind the plate who has only played 2 innings this year and only caught a handful of games in the last 3 years in the minors. If it's a blowout situation I would throw him out there just to get a little experience. It's a no lose situation. If anything it just gives the guy a few extra at bats. I don't want him just rotting away on the bench.

I got ya. I wasnt responding to you, I guess, as much as responding to people who are clamoring for J Fox to share time or be the starting catcher.

I agree, It is crazy that theyre leaving the roster with 1 and a half catchers.

pizza_Place: I'm a Gelsosomo's guy.
I was watching this game with my brother in law and right before the pitch I said, "I have a feeling Werth is going yard right here." Next pitch - game over.

I'm not sure why Lou went another inning with Samardzija - if you saw the pitch right before the home run, it was almost in the exact same spot.

Fox should play. He can't be any worse then AJ on the south side!
AJ has thrown out like (not exact) 14 out of 120 runners the last 2 years.
Not his fault, then it's the messiah,Don Cooper's fault because that SUCKS!

Can and Is.

Riddle me this...If Fox tore it up offensively in the minors the way he did...and catcher was his original position...how bad must he have been...if they dont even consider it a valid option now?

I am not going to argue the fact that he is probably a minus defensive catcher. But you already already have a minus defensive left and right fielder why not add one more to the mix. At least his bat will provide some pop while Soto is rehabbing. And FYI I know that I am probably wrong on this issue cause I am arguing the same position as JimmyMEATBALL!!!!!

He must not be able to catch behind the plate. The way the Cubs are hitting (or not hitting), I'm willing to sacrifice defense for some hitting.

Attn Phil McCracken: What is wrong with meatballs? Great with some Marconi's Gardinera! The Cubs should put him there for one game,if he IS a nightmare than he's done. I'm just looking for (scott) serviceable.

Even Alex Mundy could figure it out! It doesn't Take a thief to steal a base

I understand your thinking. Its just wrong

No but seriously...he wouldnt even be serviceable. Bad catchers get exposed quickly

The Great Jake Fox debate aside....I was hoping the Cubs could go 5 and 2 on this trip and put some distance between themselves and the .500 mark which they did. Now it's to play some of the bottom half of your own division at home.

Glad to see we finally got a win, everyone should be able to hit Moyer though. They really need to find a real shortstop next season, Theriot sucks at short. His decision making is horrible, his arm sucks, and his range his horrible. I think he would be better at 2nd, though I still say he shouldn't be an everyday player.

Schmitty,
Theriot was 4th in MLB in multi-hit games in '08(that shocked me). Currently leades the Cubs this year. I think he came up playing primarily at 2nd. I think he does OK at SS,did not see todays game, though.

well again, that "win" was just about as meaningful as sweeping the nationals. win a series against a .500 ball club or above then i can see being "glad".

theriot is one of the cubs best all around hitters. he is not the best shortstop defensively but im ok with that. he doesnt make alot of terrible plays he just doesnt have great range. sure who wouldnt like to have someone like hanley ramirez or jose reyes but theriot trailed only reyes in multi hit games last year i believe. ill take it

His range is limited, his arm (for a SS) is weak, but he is a legitimate offensive player and would be a very good 2nd baseman. Thats where he should be.

It was nice to salvage a win in Philly, even if most of the runs were scored against former Cubs Moyer and Eyre. Hell, even Stairs-their 3rd ex-Cub, got into the game to pinch hit. He made an out, so he too contributed to the win. A 5-2 road trip is easy to be happy with, but the game on Tuesday was one that got away.

On another note, Reed Johnson is looking pretty awful at the plate as of late.

Theriot is a 2b. His next time throwing someone out from the hole at short will be his first. This is not new. Having a weak armed short stop weakens the defense so much.
