This directly affects the Cubs. Right section.

Holliday the outfielder, not Halliday the pitcher.

Makes cards better..but not unbeatable

Oh well. This definately improves the Cards. Don't worry I am sure that Jim Hendry has some tricks up his sleeve....

But whatever the Cubs need to go and take care of business no matter who is on the opposition. Thank god it wasn't Halliday tho.....

Besides it'll get more discussion here than the MLB section.

It looks like they gave up a decent amount to get him. If they don't resign him after this year, this could be a bad long term deal for them. Especially considering he's a Boras client, you have to assume he'll try the usual suspects Yanks/Red Sox etc before resigning.

Yea and Boston already fleeced them.

Maybe they still have another light hitting outfielder that can't play defense.

I guess the great Jim Hendry has painted himself into a corner.

After shooting his fucking wad on the multi-million dollar outfield, he has no more monopoly money to shell out. And now he can't pull any of his Lee-Ramirez salary dump trades because he is now the one who has the salaries that need to be moved.

I guess his choices will be trade his remaining minor league chips for Freddy Sanchez, which will be next to impossible seeing as there is no owner to approve taking on his salary, or ship those minor leaguers for George Sherrill.

It's easy to be the GM when you're handed the open checkbook. The challenge is making the correct moves when your efforts have blown up in your face.

Us Cub fans better hope for a big upturn in stats from that Sori/Fuko/Milty 36.5 million dollar experiment.

At this point Hendry needs to add a lefty in the bullpen or get starter so Marshall can stay out there. They also need a hitter, most likely a 2nd baseman.

They not only added Holliday, who will bat cleanup and really help their lineup, but Julio Lugo a few days prior, to play SS for Khalil Greene, who has been sidelined with anxiety problems. These moves plus the addition they made a couple weeks back to get DeRosa, have to make them a stronger team. I would make them the division favorite, except that after Carpenter and Wainwright, the pitching is not that great. Still, they are going to make repeating as division champions again, a tough task.

They gave up alot though. Since this isnt the last season of baseball ever, they did some damage to their future. Wallace will be the next of the bad bodied oakland sluggers, and the other 2 are not scrubs either.

I think this was a very good trade by John Mozeliak. He traded a player whose best position is presently occupied (1st base) and acquired a player that will help them win now. If they are unable to sign Holliday to an extension they will receive two top draft picks in next years draft. The future in St Lou is just fine.

This move does not impress me at all. The Cards already could hit the ball. Now if they got Halladay I would be impressed and worried. Holliday does not automatically give them the division. Their bullpen and starting pitching still has issues.

They really have not hit the ball like they did last season. Ludwick has been inconsistant and far less productive than last year. Duncan was so bad, they sent him to the minors, before trading him to Boston for Lugo. Plus, Greene was not doing well, even when he was able to play. But after getting deRosa, Lugo and Holliday, they should be the offensive team they were last season. Maybe better.

BREAKING NEWS: In an attempt to counter the St Louis Cardinals move adding Matt Holiday, the Cubs have come to terms with free agent Candy Maldanado. He signed for the league minimum, which is all the Cubs could afford.

Wow, I hate being a Cubs fan sometimes.
