"Showcasing" who? Brian Anderson is a backup OF.....Wise is a fringe backup OF.

I don't think there's much to showcase in any case.

OK. BA does not hit well enough to be an everyday player. I think he has proven that to be true. He has also proven to be worthy of a roster spot as a 4-5th outfielder because he is an excellent defensive replacement. He makes nothing and is under control for several more years. So what if he was disgruntled?

So now, when the cut payroll next year, we will see them waste 1 million on some backup when they could have had BA doing the same job for half the cost.

AND FOR WHAT? I could see doing it even for some low level prospect, but Mark freaking Kotsay? Expensive, average to below average in CF, average to below average hitter.

KW has had a bad year.

That's basically how I feel. I have given up my hope that Anderson could become a starter here because he just couldn't hit, but he was our best defensive OF, and I think that should have been more highly valued.

The mystique of the WS has done Kenny well, but it's four years later and the team is average at best. Kenny should never, ever mention it again that the fans not showing up are the reason he can't field a good team. Why should fans go to see a .500 team and then get gouged for premium tickets?

The Sox need a revamping from top to bottom and that includes the front office.

That's a bit of an overreaction - I think the Sox are in transition as we speak, and I'm pretty happy with the reconstruction so far.

When you look back you can't think of a deal where it's obvious Kenny didn't come out of top. I bashed him for the Swisher move but none of the pieces he gave up have really done anything. He got rid of future Cy Young winner McCarthy before everyone found out he wasn't that good. Sweaty Freddy was dealt at his peak as well. Kenny also has a knack for finding diamonds in the rough. I would love to see what he could do one day if he were allowed to spend.

Agreed Nas.

I would love to see what Kenny could have accomplished with the payroll given to that fat fuck GM of the Cubs.

They may make the playoffs again with a roster that isn't as bad as you describe, but clearly has holes. I do agree about Kenny's attitude - he's not afraid to take chances and play to win, and I love that.

Of course he's gone. Hey, he was here long enough to become famous. Baseball fans will always know his name. That catch will be shown forever. Not just in Chicago.

Yeah....Hell they might just erect a statue in honor of it.

That's not what I was saying. You know it. Bartman is famous to baseball fans too. I don't think they'll erect a statue of him either.

The White Sox are scheduled to make a roster move after tonight's game in Minnesota. Keep in mind that Jim Thome's out of the lineup with back issues. While Thome's injury status won't have anything to do with the move, Joshua Fields appears to be the odd man out. Designated for assignment? Stay tuned...Meanwhile, even though Francisco Liriano's scheduled to start for the Twins tomorrow night, don't be shocked if one of the following happens:

*Jayson Nix starts in LF, Chris Getz at 2B
*Scott Podsednik in LF, DeWayne Wise in CF
*Carlos Quentin DHs again
*Paul Konerko DHs, Mark Kotsay at 1B
*Ramon Castro catches Bartolo Colon

Slow your roll champ. I really like KW and I think Ozzie is OK but...

The Sox were worse than the Yanks, Red Sox, Rays, Blue Jays and Angels at the end of last year. This year they are worse than the Yanks, Red Sox, Rays, Angels and arguably the Mariners, Rangers, Tigers and Twins.

Their position in playoff contention says NOTHING about KW or Ozzie. It's pure luck of the draw. The Mariners are in selling mode with a better record than the Sox.

Actually GD I think it does say a lot about Kenny Willliams and is an indictment of his lack of landing top-tier players. Ozzie does what he can with what he is given, but I think Kenny has failed in the last several years to land a solid player. He has been lucky with certain players, but as we saw in the '09 All-Star game there was ONE Sox player.

I think it was a good move, unless Anderson somehow develops into a starter-level player (which he won't).

So we are basing KW's performance partly on fan AllStar voting? There was at least one (Dye) and possibly 2 others (Konerko, Jenks) that arguably could have been All Stars.

They had, what 7 All Stars in 2006 and missed the playoffs.

So they were less overrated in 2009 than they were in 2006?

At the break in 2006, they were one of the best teams in baseball.

BA is a very good outfielder and I would not be at all surprised if he hits better for Boston. Here, he always knew that if he did not produce, Ozzie was likely to put him back on the bench or send him back to the minors-in past seasons. That kind of pressure surely did not help.

I think the defense, which was bad to begin with, has gotten worse with Brian Anderson traded to the Red Sox. Even though B.A. was an automatic out at the plate, his glove work will be missed over the long haul. Carlos Quentin still doesn't look healthy in left, Scott Podsednik's not a centerfielder and has cooled off at the plate, plus Jermaine Dye's best days are in the scrapbook in right. I'm not sure where Mark Kotsay fits in, especially because I thought Kotsay played in right & occasionally at first base when he was in Boston. Besides, correct me if I'm wrong, but Boston's already got a centerfielder better than Anderson in Jacoby Ellsbury leading off for them... :? I don't understand this trade.

Well if he hits better or not, he's not going to steal too many at bats from Ellsbury, Bay or Drew.

He's had enough of a body of work at this point that tells you, his career arc will be that of a 4th-5th outfielder and defensive replacement.

Kotsay is clearly in decline but it appears that Boston is paying most of his salary and he's a much better pinch hitter. Incidently, neither here nor there, but Kotsay was at one time thought of as a 5-tool prospect..
