I hate to say it but I think Sam Fuld can do a pretty good Reed Mantle impression for a month.

You mean solid defense, good speed, mixed in with bad hitting?

It's not like losing Ramirez again. this is a 4th outfielder we are talking about. I hope they give Fuld a chance, I liked what I saw of him last month and would like to see more. I like the way Reed plays the game, but he really was not hitting likr he had last season.

Will this team address the loss of grindiness before the trade deadline?

the only thing im concerned about is the platoon with fukudome. he hits under .200 against lefties. so someone is going to have to come up that can be in the linefup against the lefties

Well Bradley hits lefties so the obvious choice is to just slide him over to center and trot out the Soriano Bradley Fox outfield against left handers. Problem Solved!!!!!!!!!!

That would be one horrible defensive outfiled. It might hit, but my God, it could get ugly on defense.

Would it be worse than the Henry Rodriguez, Sosa, Glenallen hill outfield Riggleman trotted out a few times in '99.

It's the 10 year anniversary of that superb defensive trio.

That was one very roided up outfield.

Rodriguez was normally the Left fielder and Sosa the Right fielder. Glenallen Hill was mainly a PH'er, who filled in as a LF'er against left handed pitchers.

That is all true but for a few games in '99 Riggs moved Sosa to Center and put Hill in right. One of the most ridiculous defensive lineups of all time. But they loved salsa music and were afraid of spiders.

Please do not speak bad about Glenallen Hill. Thank you.

GAH's rooftop homer is the greatest advertisement for the power of steroids.

I was watching that game live. Couldn't believe just how much he crushed that ball. I still remember Glenallen Hill doing chinups on the railing of the dugout and staring a hole through the opposing pitcher. His Grand Slam off of John Franco is one of my fondest memories as a Cubs fan. On a side note my buddy is a huge Glenallen Hill fan so he got a custom made number 6 Hill Cubs jersey that he wears to games and all the time he gets comments like hey Bobby Hill sucked or Rich Hill couldn't find the zone. Good stuff.

Correct, I remember this defensive allignement for a Cub-Sox game at Wrigley in '99.

In his first year as a Cub Sosa played centerfield as we still had Dawson.

That was years before , when Sosa still ran well. He had a great arm when he was young too. Then, he blew up and hit lots of homers, but didn't run very well and his arm wasn't so good.
