I think this guy is the WORST CLOSER in Baseball! and Worst I have seen in sometime.

Please feel free to check many of my earlier posts about this team, I felt they would come around! But this guy would be the problem!

He holds the ball up for a long period of time giving the hitter more time than mosts to focus on the ball, so who cares if it come sin at 89 or 99, any good ML hitter can time it.

The pitching is fine, the hitting is getting better and better everyday, than can go to the playoffs, they can go 8 innings in a 1 run game with anyone, then this shlubb walks in and blows it!

Please save me the "He has been doing better crap!". Closing a game for a pitcher should be a dominance statistic, as you already have a great advantage as any piotcher entering a game. YOu should win any matchup 2 of 3 times, even against the best hitters. 4 of 5, against most. Thus to allow teams multiple hits in a sva esituation basically means YOU SUCK as a closer.

Every closer will have a good streak just because the stats are so overwhelming in their favor! But when I kept hearing how he recently was doing better it makes me sick!

oh, i totally agree. Throw a god damn strike already and preferably one that is not going to get hit. Also, why the hell is fuko playing so shallow. The runner is only on first, play no doubles.

I dont disagree with you that Gregg sucks ass, but what is your alternative? Marmol cant throw strikes as a setup guy, how is going to do with more pressure as a closer? Wood was too expensive and look at his 5.35 ERA.

from watching him it seems like he can get ahead in the count, but then he dicks around way too much outside. His out pitches start outside, they don't seem to start over the zone and break away like you would want them to. However, this has allowed the fun to begin as I can not wait to see who lou puts in the infield now that aram is down.

Soon as Bob & Len mentioned "The Village People" & a big Fireworks show was waiting to begin after 2 were out,I smelled another Cubs collapse. Amazing how quickly a game can change. Gregg looks like he is all arm. No leg kick to bring it. Maybe Dempster can teach him the "glove wiggle" to distract the hitter. Seriously, what makes me sick is when a team designates a closer which means its beyond the realm of possibility for him to get pulled in the 9th if he sucks. Cubs had no one warming up and left it in his hands,that's BS. With the game on the line,there should always be "Plan B".

Yeah, Lee Smith and Bruce Sutter were probably the best in team history. Rod beck SOMEHOW got the job done in 89 and got 50 saves, but he always made it a tightwire act. Myers was pretty good at times, but Smith and Sutter were the only ones that really made you feel like the game was secure.

Bigfan...what would you do about the closer now? Put Marmol in that role? he's been pretty darn shaky of late too, with lots of control issues. Not a lot of options. I agree about Gregg, but what change could be made to improve the situation?

I know people are being stupid because of one game but actually to the intelligent Gregg has done a decent to good job all season.

Intelligent fans who follow the team are saying he blew the lead but has been doing well all season. Stupid fans say he sucks. He sucked last night no question. But nobody with a brain says he has sucked all season.

Last night is a game that seperates the meatball fan from the intelligent fan.

Meatball fans see the game and say he sucks shoot him get a new closer.

Intelligent fans say he sucked LAST NIGHT and has done a good job overall.

Meatball fans want to dump a player because of one game.

Smart fans know the difference between a game heck even a week and a whole season.

while i understand the closer's role in all of baseball is somewhat suspect around the league, gregg is awful when it comes to just closing the damn game. he doesn't have an out pitch. his fastballs are a joke. he somewhat reminds me of dempster when he was a closer. at best, he could get the job done, but it would be a tightrope act a lot of the time. at worst, he looked like the ultimate asshole giving up the lead and blowing the saves, and blowing the games.

Well Gregg is bad, but hes not the worst closer in baseball. Thats a meatball statement. Hendry will have to find a closer in the offseason somehow, since Marmol has shown hes not ready for the job yet.

I didn't say that you don't know what a sentence means, I said you don't know how to write one. But since you have an IQ larger than a turnip, you already new that.

Remove the f word form my post and the criticism still stands, you criticize people for being idiots because they don't believe what you do; yet you do it in an unintelligent fashion.
