Mac did confirm that Jurko did sign a multi-year deal with ESPN 1000 so a hope of the two being reunited will have to wait for a few years. I have to say Im disappointed as I think the Saloon blows and Jurk would have a been a nice addition to 670.

Scorehead is heading straight for Menards to get a 5' length of rope as soon as he hears this ....

They gotta do something else (Jerry Taft) with Jurko. Hood and Jurko or something.

I don't understand why people are so quick to dismiss the afternoon saloon. We've got to get over this notion that just because Mac isn't there that it isn't entertaining. I think that Carmen has done a fine job of being the new captain on this ship.

I would be interested to see how good or bad the Saloon ratings are before I would make judgement on signing Jurko but I would agree that I do not tune in to the Saloon any longer and unless 1000 would shuffle some things around I would not listen to any of what they have to offer.

Any truth to the rumors that Mac's salary--already budgeted to the AS--is being redistributed among the 3 current saloon hosts as quarterly bonuses based on ratings success--if they come in first in the ratings for a quarter, they each get 1/4th of their 200K share of Mac's pay. This is on top of their base pay. Nice negotiating by Jurko!

Maybe ESPN is just prepping for a sign-and-trade, 3 station deal.

I think a lot of people would disagree with that.

I do. But I just cant stand Carmen. That combined with the Harryification of the show makes it unlistenable for me.

If Dickerson Silvy or even Finfer took over I would be more likely to listen.

Even discounting Carmen's arrogance, which ive mentioned before, he's just not that intersting. He's not funny. He just kinda beats his own opinoins to death by repeating them.

Jurk is hilarious to me.

But the negative of Carmen and Teinowicz (tylenol)
outweight the postive of Jurk

I would probably listen to the show if Harry wasn't there anymore.

I got the rope & just sent it to Spiegel!
Although he's doing a pretty good job of hanging himself without rope!

all three shipmates on the ss afternoon saloon make me want to jump ship.

that said, i'm glad jurko is staying put. i don't listen to his show anyhow, so i'm happy he won't be interfering in other time slots when i do listen.

seriously, who thought carmen, jurko, and harry was a good fit? it's like a bad joke.

Outside of Mac, I can't think of anyone who is a good partner for Jurko. Except maybe Erik WIlliams.

If the Saloon replaced Harry with Hood, I would listen everyday.

You know what the problem is I think? That the show isn't buzzworthy. Nobody talks about it. When you look at this board in particular and you consider us as a whole, we are some of the most avid listeners... but no one ever talks about the Afternoon Saloon. Unless it's to rip on Harry. Just like no one talks about Mully & Hanley, because it's just a 'safe' partnership. They just aren't polarizing shows... there is never a moment where you want to call up your buddy and say "did you just hear that?" For the same reason, there aren't ever many posts on here about it.

In comparison, look at the Danny Mac section and the B&B section. Feels like they get multiple threads per day. Of course Danny Mac being a card carrying member of CSFMB has a lot to do with it, but I still think either way... there is just more to talk about regarding those two shows.

In summary... I don't know that it's they are bad, as much as they just aren't anything special.

I agree totally...great post. The only thing I don't understand is if we are the avid listners, who listen daily - and you take in comparison the Danny Mac and B&B section's activity of multiple threads per day, the rating book simply don't agree.

The Mac section is now pretty dead also. The most recent thread that got posts was about the North carts. The new show doesn't seem to have much buzz either.

Great point. I honestly believe it has to do with ESPN in general. I'm 24, and I can tell you that out of my entire group of friends, I'm not sure any is an avid listener of the Score. I wasn't a fan as near as a year ago. I simply didn't like the programming on 670 (I also don't believe I gave it a real chance... and now that I have, I barely move the dial). And I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that during high school, and even college... PTI, Around the Horn, Sportscenter are the absolute center of the sports universe. Therefore, if you tune in to sports radio, it's going to be ESPN.

This is a complete assumption (and could be incorrect), but it seems that 670 has an older (I use the term relatively) crowd, while ESPN's is younger. Again, no stats to compare that's just how I see it with the people I know and the people I discuss sports with. Teens and college aged kids aren't going to tune in to Mully and Hanley... they will tune in to a show like Mike and Mike. The younger crowd won't tune in to a show like Boers and Bernstein... they will flock to a Waddle and Silvy type show. I think there is a big carryover with ESPN as it's hard to get the brainwashing out of your head. Luckily I have done it, and I'm not a slave to Sportscenter anymore. But I am guessing a lot of poeple just see ESPN as the leader and will tune in no matter what is on.
