I know McNeil has fans but I've been trying this show and am about done already. I can't take the noise. He's got no conversational tone whatsoever.

"LAWRENCE HOLMES IN BOURBONNAIS! WHAT DO YOU GOT FOR US LAWRENCE?" Yikes.

Maybe a stronger co-host would tone him down. Maybe this is good radio, but it doesn't seem good to me.

Even as a so-called member of the Mac ALS, I would have to agree with this (sans the last sentence). Tone it down a hair. You won't lose me if you're not yelling, guys. Just keep it interesting and funny. No yelling needed.

Where's my what if bell?

What if I were a program director for a large market sports talk station? Well, I'm sure that I'd be more than elated to have one of my "big name" hosts surfing a message board during the show, and finding it good form to tell listeners to push the fucking button.

Ooops, forgot to say it like I mean it!

You scream a lot, Dan, and it's annoying ... almost as annoying as you posting PTFB. As you tell your audience repeatedly, you've "been in the biz" for quite a few years -- you're on the radio, Sir. You're not standing on top of a soap box with a bull horn to communicate with your audience .. if we have a hard time hearing you, there's this awesome thing called a volume button we can utilize. YOU MAKE IT A HARD LISTEN when you go from your smarmy radio guy voice to the screaming mad man voice, I guess, to make a point.

Great, now that you've heard that in the rejoin perhaps you CAN tone it down a bit and stop replaying bits of conversations from just hours earlier, then guffawing at how funny it was?

Seriously, though, glad you hear it and recognize it.

Careful Mac - people will start to think that you are taking criticism constructively. Then what the hell will they have to write about?

I agree. I think it was the formal nature of the capital "P."

Everytime that I see/hear Mac say "ptfb", I picture him as Buddy Ackerman played by Kevin Spacey in Swimming with Sharks.

What's on the Score's banned list for PED's?

I guess it used to be the only way to get that quality of cuts of meat--"USDA PRIME".

But that's no longer the case:

The Wall Street Journal

JULY 16, 2009, 1:34 P.M. ET

Prime Time for Steak Lovers

By KATY MCLAUGHLIN

For years, Brian Wong, a 25-year-old technology consultant in San Jose, Calif., longed to buy USDA prime beef. He had tried it at an expensive steakhouse, but whenever he looked in supermarkets or at Costco for the beef with the Department of Agriculture’s highest grading, he was told they didn’t carry it.

So when Mr. Wong saw a cut labeled USDA prime at Costco—selling for $9.99 a pound—he was so startled that he knocked on the window of the butcher department. “I asked them, ‘Is this a joke? Is it really prime?’ ” Mr. Wong says. The rib eyes he bought were the real thing: They were “more tender, more juicy” and more “delicious” than any other steaks he has cooked, Mr. Wong says.

Mr. Wong experienced a phenomenon steak lovers are observing across the country: High-end beef that was once available mostly at steak houses and fine-dining restaurants is increasingly showing up in retail butcher cases. Two years ago, the only way most home cooks could get their hands on beef varieties such as USDA prime was to buy them in a gourmet store or by mail order, which could be as expensive as a steak-house dinner. But now, not only is steak-house-quality beef easier to find; in many cases, it is selling for little more than standard supermarket meat.
