Anyone listen to this on Monday (07/17) in the first 1/2 hour or so ? Granted, some of the callers weren't that intelligent, but this guy is just waiting to jump on any detail he can to belittle a caller, hang up on them, and then say thanks for the call...

Lawrence Holmes, or at least his show, seems to be very angry with his smug attitude....

Radio is a copy cat industry. Larry is trying to steal from the B&B style of the bully pulpit. But you notice when he had a drunk Pappy on everything was fine and he said in his squeely voice "thankyou Pappy" when he complimented him. Stern invented this type a radio and has created a legion of imitators. But like copies of everything it's never as sharp as the original. Radio guys love that power of taking half a statement from a caller and going off with jokes and ridicule. It's so intoxicating to them.

That's been a trend of Larry. He does tend to take B&B exact points and build his show around it. He defidently takes their style. They both do the common thing of taking one mispoken word by a caller and dismissing there entire point because they said a guys name wrong. Then they both hang up on the caller and ridicule him. It's a tiresome routine.

it's been like that ever since Me and Z. Sheeeesh, they even had a self proclaimed "Me and Z ass licking society"

he was never like that in the "underground" shows, back when i first started listening. When he just did weekends.

That show last night was just brutal. All he did was yell at his audience and berate them. It was worse than the worst days of B&B nastiness. Also did anyone else hear the whole "bands you used to love and now hate" segment? Bernstein did that EXACT bit when he was solo a few weeks ago talking about how he hates Pink Floyd now and used to love them. It was a complete ripoff.

I tried to give him a chance yesterday, but had to turn him off after he started yelling "at me" and then talked about how he had to teach the young White Sox fans baseball etiquette. He was so condscending.

He does start to yell and go wild over what amounts to nothing issues. I guess he's trying to show he has passion. To me, he just comes across as a screaming fool.

He had some reporter on for about 5 minutes, apparently a friend (I forgot his name) before the 9:00 hour, and this guy had the exact same responses that his callers had - Tigers not experienced, and Holmes did not hang up on him, call him an idiot or act smug at all....

Basically, the guy jumps on either stupid callers, or on one point within a sentence, and attempts to belittle the caller...

I have to question a show where the first segment is 'The Pulse' where people call in about what actually interests them as opposed to some rigid/forced topic that Holmes wants like teaching White Sox fans baseball eitiquette.

I just can't believe he made a segment around topics that people actually want to talk about.....

One other problem with this guy is the smugness - based on his attitude, you'd think that he was giving us great thoughts that nobody else has even pondered. Instead, he tells us that the Cubs stink, and the White Sox pitching needs to improve.

Radio should also scrap Thome's Homies. I get it, Thome hits a lot of home runs. Not one of Farmer's calls is memorable.

It seems like Holmes and Abbatacola are taking the lazy easy radio way. They see that it's kept Terry employed for 15 years. So they do the "make fun of the caller" routine and think they are hilarious.

Beardown,

That is absolutely my routine. I was just hoping that no one would notice. You caught me. Darn, now what shall I do? Beardown - "thanks for the call"

Huh? If the host doesn't make fun of the callers, Bonds, Ed Sherman, etc. where's the entertainment?

Matt & Jason are a little too giggly for me at times, but overall I like their show. They’re usually going up against national shills at Bristol during their time slot, so the choice is a no-brainer as far as I’m concerned.

Better be careful. Holmes claims he has thrown down in the past, and will again in the future.

Drinky is the only good talent they have on the weakest bench in the league. But he is the best talent on either station right now.

Don't get me wrong. Some of the dumbest people call into the Score. I'm sure it gets frustrating. But it seems that their are intellegent people that disagree with the host. They actually bring up good points and the host is looking for that one slip up so they can jump all over him and call him dumb.

Drinky you had Stone on and you backed off of your arguement with him because he is the mighty Steve Stone. Stone often condridicts himself and none of you hosts call him on it. If a caller were to make the points that Stone makes you would be all over him. That's the difference.

This really seems to be an issue in general at the Score - pompous/smug hosts who look to belittle their listening customers....ESPN Radio seems much more willing to take the calls.
