He released Cotts?

I'm struggling.

Moves by Jim Hendry in offseason - not so good.

Fired a hitting coach. Oh wait, you wanted good moves, not inconsequential moves.

1. Signing Aramis Ramirez
2. Signing Derrek Lee
3. Ditching Michael Barrett / making room for Geovany Soto
4. Acquiring and signing Ted Lilly
5.. Moving Ryan Dempster out of the bullpen and into the starting rotation, where he provides more value per dollar

I would argue the Harden trade deserves some credit, too, but I know that's debatable. Still think he's a pretty terrible GM but his track record is not without merit.

I thought it was good moves made by Hendry this off season - my bad.

That would have made more sense since he has clearly made some very good moves - Fleecing the Pirates not once, not twice but three times is way up there. Lilly turned out to be a great sign and has Dempster. Agreeing to let Prior move on took some big stones given his history and letting Wood move on also took some stones.

Nothing is ever clear when WWN starts a thread, DD. Everclear may indeed be the problem.

The thing about Dempster is that there's a disconnect between the guy and the numbers. His career year was well worth the $$$, but he'll never, ever be that good again. I credit Hendry more with the timely move getting Dempster into the rotation rather than for the acquisition & signing.

SP - I agree with you there because when he moved Dempster to the rotation, I thought that would be a bonafide disaster.

He brought up Jake Fox. Other than that pretty much every other move he has made ever has been a disaster.

No doubt Hendry deserves all the criticism he is getting. He has had a TON of bad moves. But how can you claim that Aramis has never showed up? He has probably been the best hitter on this team the last few years. He was a great move by Hendry, he completely fleeced the Pirates for him.

Who hasn't fleeced the Buco's? Let us see A-Rams post season 13-67 =.194. If that ain't showing up,I don't know what the hell is? PS I can see why Boilmker Rick has disdain for you!

He had some good moves in 02 03 04 since then he's been mostly bad.

Get rid of him. Give the job to Steve Stone.

Hendry has had a terrible offseason, but before this year I thought he was at the very least a competent GM.

One move that has not been mentioned but was one of his best deals was that he was able to unload Todd Hundley to the Dodgers for Eric Karros and Mark Grudzielanek.

Randall Simon proved to be a nice pickup in '03.

Well trading for Harden was a good move, gave up basically nothing for a guy who went 5-1 down the stretch last year.

Reed Johnson and Jim Edmonds were picked off the scrap heap last year and performed very well.

Marquis was a serviceable starter for two years, probably better than most people expected.

Unfortunately Hendry's big spash moves have been bad, and not be able to find a left handed hitting slugger has been, IMO, his biggest problem.

Point taken, but those 2 guys fell in his lap to begin with.

But when the Sox pick up Alex Rios, just a waiver claim, you called it a great move.

So tell me, what is the difference?

 Typical.

The difference is that KW is better than Hendry by leaps and bounds. He's made a number of "great" moves, and yes did have Rios more or less fall in his lap. He's also won a ring.

Both Ramirez and Lee were acquired via trade, not FA signings.

I think anytime a GM makes a trade that benefits their team, the term "fell into their lap" can't be used. Both teams have to agree to the trade, regardless of what position they are in in the standings.

So you have contradicted yourself. You called picking up Rios a great move in a prior thread, but then say yes, it more or less fell in his lap.

Just because Rios fell in his lap doesn't mean it's not a great move. A bunch of other teams must have had the opportunity for Rios to fall in their laps but passed on it.
