The Buffalo Bills' head coach is on the spot, among the head coaches this season on the HOT SEAT.

Caleb Hanie, for what it's worth, played pretty good with the second team in tonight's preseason game. Then again, #12 in white & navy played good enough with the third teamers to earn a spot on the 53-man roster last year. The waiver wire will certainly get quite a look as far as veteran QBs are concerned, possibly backing up Cutler.

I know he's bad, and I don't ever want to see the Bret Basenez experience, but I can't really work up glee over the prospect of him getting cut.

We are still worrying about the backup QB?

He is awful. Granted the first INT wasn't his fault at all - but the other two were just bad. If he is throwing picks like that against 3rd and 4th stringers he has no chance against 1st team defenses. He also had zero "zip" on the ball. Just floating ducks up there.

EDIT: Stupid quote function. Not filled with "glee" - just seemed to warrant an exclamation point instead of the standard period. I apolgize if my choice of sentence closure offended you. :D

OK, but still, I don't get it. Players are bad, and bad players deserve to get cut. I don't get happy about the thought of guys losing their jobs though.

Hub Arkush, wearing a green Cubs' T-shirt on the 670thescore.com Webcam, and Dan Hampton are holding court right now. Hub admits that the preseason sucks, but felt the Bills had a bit of an edge playing 6 nights earlier in the Hall-of-Fame Game. If anyone's been concerned about the lack of experience at backup QB, Hub is, even with the Bears acquiring Jay Cutler.

Jay Cutler in the post-game blamed his pick on Hester being too short to go up and grab a ball over the defender.

Keep in mind that the Bears didn't play the likes of running back Matt Forte, tight end Greg Olsen & defensive tackle Tommie Harris in the preseason opener tonight, in part because the Bills play on a hard AstroPlay surface at Ralph Wilson Stadium and the Bears didn't want to risk serious injuries when they'll be needed come Opening Night, September 13th on the "Al & Cris Show", also known as "NBC's Sunday Night Football", in Green Bay.

I aint worried about the backup QB because I understand if we are depending on our backup we are screwed anyhow. But with that said, Hanie did some nice things during his time out there.

Nathan Vasher looks like he may be done. He really struggled last night and appeared out of breath on a few plays.

Vasher really breaks my heart. I don't know what happened. I really thought last year it was because of all the trouble his daughter was going through but it's like he has lost "it", whatever it was.

I think the defense is going to be pretty good actually. Pisa didn't play (at least I don't think so). Tillman & Harris were out. Afalava was freakin' awesome. Might be some hope for Steltz being an impact player.

Bills had a no huddle going the whole time. It was their 2nd game. We played our base defense 90% of the time.

There's some reasons to have some optimization about the defense.

It was Peanut Tillman's daughter that had/has the medical issues. Unless Vasher's did too?

You're right.

Any explanation why Vasher struggled would be great?

he got paid and he had always overachieved before. he is undersized for his position, and without that early 20's extra spring vahser isn't extra special. the best thing he ever did was intimidate other teams into NOT throwing to his side... which is an accomplishment in itself but it doesnt mean he's going to get a whole hell of a lot better.

I'd agree with that and he has been injured too. I don't think he got paid and got lazy.

Nathan Vasher might very well be among the guys who don't make the 53-man roster on the Chicago Bears...I don't know what happened to him either.

At any point during the discussion did Hub declare Dick Jauron one of the best coaches in the game?

You're comparing Devon Hester to Steve Smith & Santana Moss? Really?

Besides learning to play WR, I wish Hester would learn to speak English.
