I'm a little surprised that football is here already though last year I was focussed on baseball a lot later than normal...

I have never gone before, but I am thinking about doing so this year.

Also: Does it bother anyone besides me that Robbie Gould is still the kicker?

Coach, I'll be there. Don't know when yet. I'd like to go on a friday or saturday so I can take part in a night of drinking in Bourbonais. Is that in Illinois?

Also will hit up Colts camp once.

After the turd they signed last year to start the season (Brien) I'll stick with Gould even though he can't leg out long kicks.

There are too many unanswered questions and I don't feel great about this team. I'm waiting to see how they play. We should win our suck a$$ division but I think we might get bounced in the first playoff game again.

Oh, come on people. Can we at least get them to training camp before we have them eliminated in the first round of the play-offs. Yes, let's talk about weaknesses and strengths - give specifics, please - but let me get excited about all of it before already dooming their play-off run early.

I expect and NFC Title appearance with Griese eventually leading the way.

Unfortunately I agree with Woodridge Ryan - Griese will be leading this team at some point in the season. I'm not really confident in his abilities.

Does anybody know what is happening with Jones/Benson?

I'm looking forward to this year. I think the Bears will be a good team but not great.

he moves around because his BAC is usually above .1 :-)

One bad year made them give up on Edinger so they brought in a kicker who repeatedly choked in the playoffs the year before.

I don't know about Gould but it pretty tough to argue that Edinger should have been kept. Its no coincidence that he's still without a team. Think about how bad that is in a league where at least one kicker is brought into every camp as fodder for "competition".

In the case of Denver, it was youthful mistakes and a personality conflict with Shanahan. In TB, it was a younger QB that they are trying to develop. Pretty hard to argue against a 5-1 record.

I would expect the Bears to bring another kicker into camp to give Gould a run for the money. I thought I heard they were bringing in a punter to challenge Maynard too. Is that the case?

Just looked it up.....

Josh Huston from tOSU is in camp to challenge Gould and a punter who averaged 44 yards per kick at La-Lafayette is in to challenge Maynard.

The guy has made 70% of his FG's 40+ yards out, will make a game winner from 56 yards out and will takle a guy if needed. The only thing he sucks at is kickoffs. If that is the only problem, why not let the punter do it?

Don't ask me. Ask the 31 other teams that won't even bring him in for a try out. Minnesota doesn't have a punter?

I'd say there must be a reason. Perhaps just letting "the punter do it" isn't as easy as it sounds...
Robbie Gould is money if the FG is less than 40 yards. However, he only converts 38% of his FG from 40+ yards out.
NAS, thanks for posting that stat. I was about to look it up while reading through this thread. I can't even begin to figure out why they didn't go after another kicker (especially with Vanderjagoff and Vinitieri available). What did Gould do to "secure" his job? With the offense being a big question mark yet again this year, wouldn't it be beneficial to have a kicker that might be even 50% over 40 yds?

I'm surprised that none of Gould's failed attempts were run back.

Another problem: Alex Brown had offseason shoulder surgery, has been slow to recover from it, and apparently was unable to do much weight training for the past several months. I hope he's not going to become a liability on the d-line.

How about the first few weeks of the season? To write a team off that went to the playoffs last year with no offense is crazy. Once Grossman settled down he showed you what you have to look forward to when he is healthy. Three touchdown drives of 60+ yards. I see no reason as of now why this team won't go to the SuperBowl.

I agree with you on this Nas. If the Bears figure out a way to be AVERAGE on offense, and they maintain consistency on defense they can be really good. I'm excited about Grossman (in a non Terry Bores way), I think if he stays healthy I think he'll be great. Orton played pretty much all season and didn't look as good in one game as Grossman did at the end of the year after sitting out all that time. He can play, hopfullly he stays healthy. They have great debth at RB, WR is the biggest question mark. But all they have to do is be average on offense and they have a great chance......
