Piniella: Not a good chemistry teamComment Email Print Share ESPNChicago.com

Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella said his team doesn't have the best chemistry, but he said that's not the reason the Cubs have had such a disappointing season.

"Winning has a lot to do with chemistry," Piniella said before Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field. "It makes a team come together a lot quicker

"I told you all this spring it takes a while with new guys. It doesn't necessarily fall on your lap. This hasn't been one of our ... this hasn't been one of my better chemistry teams. But is that the reason why we're winning or losing baseball games? No.'

The Cubs are embroiled in another controversy involving right-fielder Milton Bradley, who said he faces hatred on a daily basis and he prays games don't go into extra innings so he can leave the park as soon as possible.

Piniella was asked if he thought Bradley wants to play for the Cubs.

"I can't speak for Milton," Piniella said. "I really can't. Well, he's getting paid to play. And I'm getting paid to put out a lineup. And that's exactly what I'm doing.

"Look, we've had enough problems here with injuries and so forth. We don't need any other controversy of any sort. That speaks for itself.
