"They are only 5.5 out of the wildcard."

Yes, correct! with 4 tteams in front of them. Colorado, who is leading in the wildcard and is 14 games over.500, the Cubs are 3 games over.500. So we need to makes up 11 games in the last 35! So, IF we went 30-5 the rest of the way, Colorado and SF would need to go below .500.

Not happening. But come on out for Beanie Baby day! and see Another Hawks player sing take me out to the ballgame

Was the sappy assed dreamy quote from Memolo, Koz, Kap or Stephanie from Park Ridge?

WGN Radio has been full of shit for its entire existence.
They invented happy talk.

I hope the new owner gets a new CUBS motto: Baseball comes first!
The new owner needs to send a message. This ain't no playground!
Move the Harry Caray statue inside of Wrigley,no more guest singers.
Try a recording of Harry singing. Cut off Beer sales by the 3rd inning during night games.
Let's get down to the business of winning! Build the farm system by trading veterans.
In Free Agency, concentrate on young starting pitching & some "spare part" type players you can platoon. NEVER get locked into a contract longer then 4 years. Make sure IP or AB's is a big part of the incentive in the contract. Cut Soriano,if nobody wants him. (Even if the Cubs offered to pay 80% of his contract,he is still a hard sale.) Fukudome and/or Bradley can stay but 1 of the 2 needs to go. Next years Cubs team needs to be faster & better defensivley. Along with good pitching and some hungry younger players, they might be fun to watch again.

Direct Hit...
Thursday's Tribune indicates that the Cubs revenue for 2008 was $241,000,000.
The Cubs days of spending wildly and acting like the Yankees, Mets and Red Sox will come to an end if new ownership has any sense.
They have to pour money into the moneymaker...Wrigley Field...
The way to success that neither one of these poorly run baseball teams here can figure out is BUILD A GREAT FARM SYSTEM......You can use the guys or trade them....and you only go after a NEED free agent....not an ass like Soriano or the nitwit Miltie.

Jimmy, you're absolutely right.
I've got to agree that Dallas Green, Larry Himes baseball will be back. The Cubs are sure to be another Pittsburghlike team. And we'll see what geniuses Hendry and Kenney are when they get $80 million pulled from under their feet.
Bad Baseball is back.

The Florida Marlins are notable for winning the World Series twice (1997, 2003) during the only two times they've made it to the postseason. They won despite never winning first place in their division, advancing to the playoffs both times as the National League Wild Card winner. They are the only team to have won all of their postseason series to date.

What good is the $80,000,000 when it is squandered on idiots like Soriano and Miltie?
The Yankees ALWAYS get who they want....the Cubs can not and should not compete if their revenues are to the tune of $241,000,000 per season...and that is when they went to the Playoffs in 2008.

None of these things have anything to do with winning/losing baseball. I think I see what you're getting at with maybe having a different organizational mindset, which would be fantastic, but what they really need to do is take a page from the the championship Yankee teams and get players who play the game right, not just big names with big price tags who hot dog it and half ass everything.

Yes,I know. It's just the "circus" vibe it gives off. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth,I don't like it. Wrigley Field should not be a big party house. Those night games are really bad. Keep the "frat boys" from getting drunk and acting like clowns. I like Lou Pinella. He is not the issue. He looks sleepy on the post-game interviews, but in 40 years of watching the Cubs,I never saw somebody pay more attention during a game. Everytime the cameras are on him,he is either talking with a coach, looking in his notes, looking at his scouting reports, etc.
Soriano is hurt,he half-asses it because he can't run. He seems to be a solid pro,but just can't hit for average. The Cubs can come back next year with some vets, but need to infuse more youth & speed.

My favorite WGN Radio comment was when Bob Collins told everyone he was a proficient airplane pilot.

How exactly does moving the statue or cutting off beer sales bring us a winning baseball team?

Only a moron would think that has any impact on the wins and losses and that's all that should count.

I'm all for the 7th inning stretch thing ending.

You're right if the Cubs had cut off beer sales in the 3rd inning we'd have 40 world series titles to our names.

Only a moron can't interpet my original post either! I was just talking about how the whole atmosphere is about "beer drinking, party central type BS. It is how we are perceived by the rest of the country.

He used to talk about his stupid assed motorcycle...had George Ryan on all the time when Ryan was Secretary of State...kissed his ass....maybe he went to those dinners with George where somebody else always picked up the tab.
Collins used to talk up Cracker Barrel like it actually had desirable food.

The Cubs are only 4 back in the loss column. Sure its doubtful, but with the schedule they have, you never know. With this homestand you would of liked a 8-2 or 9-1 record, but right now it's 3-3, which is bad. You should never lose 2 of 3 to the Nationals.

 You guys are funny. Has this team showed you ANY sign that they are capable of going on an 8-2, 9-1 run? Absolutely not.

You're kidding yourself if you think you are going to see a meaningful baseball game in October in this city.

Frank, even if the sun shined on a dog's ass and they were to win the division or the wild card, they'd still get murdered in the playoffs. Here we are all excited about them having a light schedule the rest of the way. Big fuckin deal. What's going to happen when they play the Dodgers?

it would definitely make a lot more sense for them to come out and announce that they are done, the season is over, there is no hope, and please stop listening to our broadcasts. while that might be a big hit with the all-powerful message board crowd, the employers over at WGN probably figure a more positive approach to the last month may be more enjoyable for the listener. sponsors could have a problem with the "we suck, why listen?" campaign.

I take everything I hear on the weekend version of sports central with a grain of salt. Memello and Koz are both morons. All through out the off-season Koz was saying that Bradley was going to be good for the cubs.

Giving score updates of the Rockies-Giants game every 10 minutes isn't going to change anything. This team is done.

They should try it!!!
Tell the truth to the dipshit audience that listens to WGN Radio.
I guess the sponsors target residents of nursing homes and don't want to disrupt their routines.

Actually if the Cubs went 30-4 (since they lost yesterday) the giants and rockies would need to go 23-8 to beat them. 22-9 puts the Cubs ahead. So it isn't as pessimistic as you make it out to be, though the chances are still shit at best.

WRONG...DEAD ASSED WRONG....Urban myth.....Originally Collins was found at fault by the NTSB and the family of Sharon Hock was awarded $410,000.
Later on a Federal Judge ruled Collins not at fault and the finger seemed to be pointing at the Air Traffic Controller.
There is disagreement among pilots as to what Collins should or should not have done.

He sure wasn't the Red Baron.
