To be honest, I just want Smith out of here. I could give a shit who they bring in on an interim basis. For marketing, maybe bring in Butkus as your interim coach (not that I think he'd fuck things up any worse than they already are, but to see him throw Bob Babich out of the booth would be priceless).

lovie is a good but not great coach. He's a great defensive coordinator. He's loyal to a fault and his block management is suspect. Anyone saying he's a terrible coach really shows their lack of knowledge about coaching league wide, and by terrible i mean bottom quarter of the league bad. Try romeo cronell or art shell as your head coach

 You better not let Spmack see that.

In all seriousness, I do often wonder if that's a substantial percentage of the Lovie hate.

I would just about guarantee it accounts for part of it.

Can't count it out, but I'd wager it has more to do with that confused look he constantly wears as well as his non-reactive personality.

I think that's part of it as well. If he screamed at people and acted like a fan he'd be a hero. It's all a rich tapestry.

Which is completely ridiculous, some of the best coaches ever in the NFL did not have reactive personalities. Bill Walsh, Tom Laundry, etc.

There's probably a point-counterpoint on each side. Tom Landry was probably a cold SOB in the lockerroom. Bill Parcells wouldn't get that redfaced, at least on the field, but he was obviously a hothead. Etc.

Nowadays, however, you can count the number of yelly screamy QBs in one hand. And they're mostly bad. Zorn in Washington is trending that way, and he's about to lose that team. Players are going to be in open revolt by Week 8. Who else is out there? Even Coughlin has backed off that stuff. How did Spurrier work out?

Exactly, which is why reactive or non reactive personality has NOTHING to do with whether a person is a good coach.

I know Dr. Ken took up the cause of the redass coach a while ago, and made some decent points. All this analysis seems so post hoc, however. If you listen to fans, there are four types of coaches:

Passive winner: Calculating, decisive
Passive loser: disconnected, clueless
Aggressive winner: motivating, fiery
Agressive loser: hothead, maniac

Accusing the Lovie detractors of racism is bullshit. This is a town who roots for dozens of black athletes, many of whom arent even that good. Who gives a shit what color an Athlete is? Bears, Cubs, Sox, Bulls & Hawks fans could care less. Well...except for maybe Elmhurst Steve...
Do you really think that there are Bears fans who dont cheer when Forte scores, but do cheer when Olsen scores? Thats just silly.

Lovie is a dufus...that is why people dont like him.

I've gone on record calling for the removal of Coach Smith. I have never changed my stance on this, because he's a bad coach (and the reasons have been mentioned 85 times on this board, so I'm not going to rehash them).

Shame on those of you raising the issue of race with this. When the team stinks and will miss the playoffs again, the coach needs to go.

Downright Freudian.

I didn't say you were a racist. I said you were a football retard. I know Beebo doesn't like that phrase so I'll amend to football moron. I stand by that.

What the fuck did Bears fans do to deserve the following 3 turds?
Dave Wannstedt
Dick Jauron
Love Smith

Bears fans deserve one of the following proven winning coaches:
Bill Cowher
Jon Gruden
Mike Shanahan

One of those things is not like the other. Compare Lovie Smith's record since 2004 with Gruden's. I imagine it holds up fairly well to Shanahan as well. And Cowher won exactly one SB in 15 years. Not saying he's a bad or even average coach, but his stretch in Pittsburgh wasn't one of unmitigated success.

John Kirk = football moron. Sorry to go all Steph on y'all.

Irish,

Lets see who the moron is here...
Who would you choose to coach the Bears...
Lovie
Cowher
Gruden
Shanahan

A one word answer will suffice.

Cowher

After that:

Lovie
Shanahan
Gruden

That's more a reflection of my negativity on the last two than my love of Lovie Smith.

Then we agree. What doesnt make sense is the Bears hire these first time unproven head coaches, then they have one good year, & the Bears give them a huge raise and extension. Wanny, Jauron, & Lovie all had one good year & a bunch of mediocre or bad years.
Lovie Smith is now the highest paid head coach in the NFL at more than $5 Million dollars per year.
Why the hell dont the Bears just hire a proven winning coach in the first place?

See, I would go for Cowher too. But that doesn't mean I want Smith hanging around for the rest of the year.

No way will the Bears fire Lovie during the season.
