If the Tigers play .500 ball from here on out, they'll be 85-79.

Sox need to go 22-17 to finish 85-79. They are one game over .500 right now, and they'll need to finish five over for the rest of the season, including the roadtrip.

If the Tigers can play two games over .500 (86-78), the White Sox will need to go 23-16 to finish the season to tie.

Highly unlikely. The White Sox will probably dig themselves into a hole with a 4-7 (or worse) road trip, not to mention that they haven't been able to get more than 3-4 games above .500 all season.

Fans act like it is just a matter of getting through this week and then making a run. September features another west coast trip, 4 more with the Red Sox and a stretch run of 9 of 12 against the Twins/Tigers, 6 of which are on the road. .500 against these opponents would be playing very good baseball.

Still, I have the White Sox at 85 wins. I just have to hope the Tigers are just a little more mediocre.

Highly unlikely for the Sox to win this thing, especially becuase the Tigers have been medicore recently and the Sox failed to capitlize on that.

However, with 6 games left against Detroit, if they can just manage to hang around they do still have a shot.

Bears.

The Sux are at 63-63, tied with Minnesota, who along with detroit will finish ahead of the Sux as I said over a month ago.

If the Tigers play 10-9 from here on out, the Sox need to go 16-2 to tie, or 17-1 to win.

If the White Sox win 4 of 6 against Detroit, and Detroit goes one game under .500 in the rest of the games, the Sox would still have to go 10-2 in the rest of the games to tie, or 11-1 to win.

I don't think it's going to happen, but 6-0 against Detroit, maybe 5-1, is the only way anything happens.

For what it's worth (not much  ), coolstandings.com (used by espn) has the sox playoff chances at 3.5%.

I like those odds.

The chance that IB will pop some champagne when the Tiger's clinch is 98.23%

I couldn't care less about the Tigers, or really the White Sox for that matter.

This thread is obviously just a response to Keyser's thread.

Who probably will actually pop Champagne when the Cubs are mathematically out.

Which is gonna be pathetically early

I have not watched a baseball game in about 3 weeks, when the Cubs and Sox are not really in it, it all bores me. Thank goodness college football and the NFL are here.

The difference is I started my thread in May when it was a forgone conclusion the cubs were in the playoffs. Joany come lately started this thread a few weeks ago.

The difference is that I don't particularly care (I said all along I wasn't buying into the baseball season this year), whereas it pisses of you and Frank to no end to point out that, no, you don't have a realistic chance of winning the worst division in baseball.

If it didn't annoy you two I wouldn't do it.

You have a very high opinion of yourself if you think you can say anything that 'annoys me' or 'pisses me off'. Though it is nice to see you care.

Come on Keyser, anyone that reads this board with any regularity can see how much it pisses you off that the Sox cannot win this crappy division. You try to avoid it by making fun of the Cubs or talking up how superior the AL is over the NL, but it is quite obvious that it really does piss you off. At the end of the year both the Cubs and Sox suck and will be watching the playoffs on their couches.

That means I'm angry at the Sox, not with some anonymous douchebag on the internets.

What have I been avoiding? I'm posting in the Sox section as much as usual and haven't posted in the cubs section because there isn't anything else to say (until the offseason).

I guess people read what they want to read.

 Yeah, the Pirates, Cubs, Reds, Brewers, and Astors are real juggernauts over there in the NL.

No. The title goes to the south side this year.

The White Sox own Chicago for this year.
