Not necessarily true. He makes both FGs and they're up 6 before that final drive. They can't win (or tie) on a FG, but they still could have drove the field. They played for a FG when they got in range (which ticked me off), but that wouldn't have happened if they needed a TD.

The momentum swing was Alex Brown's back to back tackles for losses before that missed FG.

And IB is spot on with the conservative playcalling because they only needed a FG.

I didn't like that one bit. Granted, Gould is good, and the time set up well. But the field was obviously awful (which is an absolute disgrace; I can't think of a college stadium with a field that bad- the playing surface should not have such a drastic effect on the game) and you never know how that will effect the kicking game. But they played it that way and it worked, so who knows. It's a little too close to standing on 15 when the dealer's showing a face card for my liking.

Gould's career percentage makes that a no brainer, bad field, conditions, whatever. You sacrifice leg for accuracy, and he has that in spades.

Cutler is a fucking stud. Took all that BS, and just went out and performed.

I don't even think you sacrifice much leg. His touchback rate is about what you would expect for an outdoor stadium. And he's made longer field goals, just never officially- he hit a 52 yarder in the preseason this year. But if you miss, the field position implications are huge, so it almost always makes sense to either go for it or punt. That's sound strategy IMO, not deficiency.
