I know nothing about this movie other than the 60 second "sneek peak" I saw on TV. So maybe I'll be proven wrong, but.....

BAD.

I wouldn't have believed it possible that in 30 seconds of a movie I could roll my eyes and think "are you serious?" more than 10 times, but this one did it.

PLOT: The Mayans say we all die on Dec. 21, 2012 and apparently it starts with California falling into a big hole and unless you have John Cusack and Amanda Peet's limo and airplane there is no chance of survival.

I love these end of the world stories so much that I find that I can tolerate even the worst of them.

I think its my favorite plotline in all of storytelling. I've read The Stand at least 3x.

but that said I do hate John Cusack with the fire and the passion of a 1000 Aaron Rowands so this one could be tough.

nowhere near the depth and brilliance of "Meteor: Path to Destruction".

however, i have to admit some of the imagery was downright spectacular. suspending disbelief might be an understatement, though, in taking this movie seriously.

I love all of the 2012 Doomsday stuff on Discovery /History Channel, etc and it looks like a lot of eye candy in this one.

I can't take it seriously for the sheer fact that John Cusack is in it.

Seems very "The Day After Tomorrow"-ish, 90% effects 10% plot.

The clip I saw was like watching a SNL spoof of what an end of the world action movie should be. Buildings are falling apart, roads collapsing, giant sinkholes everywhere and jumping the limo over stuff "Dukes of hazzard" style and taking off in the plane as the runway sinks behind them. Throw in that once airborne, it apparently makes more sense to stay low and dodge the collaping buildings than it does to get a little altitude and try and figure out what the hell to do.

I think after seeing W_Z's avatar I'd rather just go back and watch Night of the Hunter again.

Are we supposed to cheer as fans for John Cusack to survive?

I'll take the end of the world instead.

Is Joan Cusak's face the thing that triggers all of this chaos?
