Wow, insulting all the hockey fans that listened to your show probably didn't help.
Speigs, most listeners don't like you as it is. Why be rude?

Hockey fans are monosyllabic
Hockey fans do not own a car made in this century (coming from the crew that's stuck musically in 1982 and quotes movies all day from the 70's)
Hockey fans cannot use two verbs in a sentence.
Basically, hockey fans are dumb.

Wow. So I guess that leaves Larry and Grobber as the only guys who don't insult hockey fans on the station now. Super.

Speaking of which, Grobber was great last night.

No, just hire Waddle and Silvy and shitcan Mac and Meat. There, I just improved the station's ratings.

Damn! That was stupid. I'm starting to agree with the people who say that Spiegel is the problem. It seems like his big league call up has gone to his head. Of course that's just the opinion of a guy hailing from LaSalle County in the 815.

Why not just do one show that's extremely caller intensive and see how it goes. Just don't call it The Pulse. I'd like to see how the show sounds when there's a lot of caller input both good and bad.

And Meatpants is an abrasive listen for me still. He comes off as a much bigger dick than Bernstein in his arguments and usually has no tangible evidence to back up his points. It's like he's trying to play some character and it's failing.

I like Matt, too, but the last couple days have not been very good. Yesterday he did some dumb "Would you sleep with a midget is she were hot?" thing that was approaching Teinowitzian levels of lameness.

Tad, I wish Mac would put the thing w/Harry to rest...Let it go! That's what Bill Melton kept telling Dave Wills when Dave was down the dial as White Sox pre & postgame host, and going back to his days with the Kane County Cougars...

He could start with having the people who work with him tune into his show and not W&S.

Anyone else catch this? Silvy said ZZ was texting him about his question; Who are the pro bowl QB's the Bears have had on roster this decade.

Now granted this could be a little meatball-ish but you would think if ZZ is driving to Halas Hall for JayDay he would have his employer and teammate on the dial and not the competition. At minimum, ZZ should not be participating in the competitors show by texting the host.

If I were Silvy I would be smiling inside thinking that the competitions own staff can't listen to the competition.

Before you all get your panties in a bunch; it wasn't a slam on the Jewish faith by a long shot. However; many practicing Jews honor what their faith says, and quite a few holidays they are either required or its suggested they do not work. No more, no less.

But for those who asked for what days; I don't have the full schedule into 2010 handy; but I did find a listing for 2009 (and figure that would also have corresponding days in 2010, unless its a floating holiday that changes):

Purim (Nightfall of March 9 through nightfall of March 10)
Work should be avoided.
Consult a Rabbi if this is not possible.

Passover
No work permitted on April 9-11, 15-16. Work is permitted only on April 12-14 with certain restrictions.

Shavuot (Sunset of May 28 through nightfall of May 30)
No work is permitted

Tish'a B'Av (Sunset of July 29 through nightfall of July 30)
Work should be avoided. Consult a Rabbi if this is not possible.

Rosh Hashanah (Sunset of September 18 through nightfall of September 20)
No work is permitted.

Yom Kippur (Sunset of September 27 through nightfall of September 28)
No work is permitted.

Sukkot
No work permitted on Oct. 3-4. Work is permitted on Oct. 5-9 with certain restrictions.

Hoshanah Rabbah (October 9)
Work permitted with certain restrictions.

Shemini Atzeret (Sunset of October 9 through nightfall of October 10)
No work is permitted.

Simchat Torah (Nightfall of October 10 through nightfall of October 11)
No work is permitted.

Chanukah (Sunset of December 11 through December 19)

That's a lot of days off. Now, Spiegs might not honor all of them, or it might be a traditional orthodox thing, I don't know; and I have no idea what "certain restrictions" would apply; but sheesh gang. Don't find conspiracies every where you look.

Add on top of it taking off for his band? Maybe he's not the best fit for an on air show that's looking to build a following; if he'll be taking off. No more, no less than that.

I have good friends who are Jews who got what I meant. If anyone took offense; I sincerely did not mean it as an insult.

I'm sure you are joking ... but isn't CBS paying Steve Dahl to sit in his basement and not broadcast? How interesting would a Danny Mac/Steve Dahl mid-day show be? Despite his morning show failure on the old MVP, pairing him up with a real sports talker like McNeil could be at least changing the now-failing dymanic? The visits with Tom Thayer would be must listen radio.

Biggest question is could those two egos co-exist?

I have worked with many, many Jewish people over the years and they have NEVER taken off ANY of these days you mention except for Rosh Hashanah (and sometimes for that, just leaving a little early to make a family dinner) and Yom Kippur.

And I've worked with some who take off for all of them. Like I said, I don't know Speigs' strength in his faith; I don't know how many he would take off.

But in a job that requires you to market yourself (and that's exactly what being an on air personality is. People LIKE to listen to Waddle and Silvy more because of the PEOPLE who are there.) If he was/is going to follow his faith and take that time off; in a market that people are focused on you being there, versus coming back? People tune in to hear the names who are the hosts of the show. Dan and Terry's ratings when they aren't there aren't as good as when they are there. Same with any personality on the radio; or tv.

Look, obviously this is a sore subject; and I apologize.

However, if I can refocus this; Speigs DOES take days off that I think shows a lack of commitment to the show and WSCR. He was hired to work at WSCR to talk sports. Two Fridays ago; you get no bigger of a sports story than the Olympic bid

Where was he? Doing his tribute band thing in Daley plaza. This is a guy who hasn't established himself on the likes of a Steve Dahl; or even a Danny Mac. He should be busting his ass to prove that he is worth having on 9-1; instead of, quite frankly; acting as a college frat kid who takes off his retail gig to chase a dream.

Biggest sports story of the day; and he was off doing cover songs.

Speigs has been given a golden opportunity; and between taking shot after shot at Harry; taking time off for his band, taking and talking more about the fun and good times he has away from the show?

He's proving he doesn't belong at that level.
