Is Adams better than who we would get with that pick?

IMO the chances of that are pretty good, therefore I like this pick. You can never have enough good D lineman.

almost every team that has been good for the part several years has done it through the draft. Since the pats stopped building through the draft they haven't won a super bowl and only came close one time. And adams is not a very productive player scorehead. And angelo is not nearly as bad as you think

FF, I get the part about improving thru the draft. But if you are presented with an opportunity to get your team better, do you say no I cannot do that because I want to keep the draft pick?

The trade pretty much says goodbye to Adewale Ogunleye at the end of the season, which was going to happen anyways because the Bears would not give him new paper. Could the Bears be shopping Adewale?

it depends. Obviously getting moss for the 4th was a good move and made the team better. But the rats are old and one me the reasons is because the past few years they have had shortsighted tunnel vision and their defense is suffering now. As for this move, i dont think it made the team much better right now. Maybe gaines turns it around but i wouldn't have given that much for him.

I would have rather seen them trade #2 next year for some help in the secondary than the D-Line.

Not necessarily. I haven't read this entire thread, so I apologai if its been mentioned already. Tommie Harris is due a very sizeable roster bonus in March, and I think he needs to get the axe before those other 2. Its clear he is just a shell of what he once was. Guy made millions off of some good games from '05 and half of '06, and has been hurt ever since.

Yeah I know he's a DT, but if they are getting rid of anybody on that defense it needs to be him first.

jamarcus russell was the #1 pick that year, so being #4 that year isnt exactly something you want to hang your hat on. high draft position doesn't mean you are a great, or even GOOD nfl player. his production doesnt look that bad on paper if you need a pass-rusher, but he must be a real fuck-up to have his coaches throwing him under the bus like i have read.

to me, if you trade 1st and 2nd round picks, you had better be getting some proven starting talent in return. if your argument is that your team usually sucks at drafting, so why not get rid of the picks in trades, your team has bigger problems to deal with that goes WAY beyond anything a coach or a player can do, anyway.

If you were to break down Tommie Harris's contract, he basically signed a bunch of 'one year' contracts which include 'roster bonuses' at the beginning of each year. That was the way the Bears protected themselves with the aging Fred Sanford.

This is true. Everytime i lament the Bears' less than ideal OL situation, I think of that swiss cheese line the Pack is running out there... will Rodgers finish the season upright?

I don't have a problem with this trade, as long as Marrinelli can work his magic with him. I loved him coming out of Clemson. Obviously, I would have preferred they gave up a 3rd or 4th for him, but what can you do?

The Bears' acquisition of Gaines Adams last night likely sends Adewale Ogunleye and his big contract packin' in 2010, whether there's a salary cap or not.

And to be clear, Ogunleye is a free agent after this year. Free agents are not under contract so there will be no paper to "send packin" with him. He will travel unencumbered.

You just answered your own question...the Bears have a much better chance of maximizing there draft picks by trading them for proven players, rather than by using them in the draft. Take a look at Angelos draft picks in the first round since he has been the Bears GM. Not one of these players is any good.
