The best advice I can give about betting the preseason is don't do it to try to make money. Do it for entertainment purposes only. There are too many unknowns to put any kind of serious money on these games. Some people say it's stupid to bet preseason, and I don't necessarily disagree with that. However, I think there are a few angles worth considering in the preseason if you want the action and want to put a little pocket change to make the games interesting. (They certainly aren't very interesting on their own). Handicapping these games is entirely different than the regular season. Forget trying to figure out "who wants it more" or "motivation" or any kind of psychobabble crap like that. Usually, it comes down to expected player rotations, particularly at QB, and the length of time that one team will play its starters vs. the other.

Hall of Fame Game
Eagles-Raiders UNDER 36-1/2
Playing unders is, statistically, a good play the first week of preseason. Last year, the first week's games went 10 under and 6 over. We've had similar results the last several years. The reason is pretty obvious...most of the teams play their starters just a few series or one quarter at the most. With the reserves in the rest of the game, including many who will never see an NFL field during the regular season, there aren't many guys who are going to make many big plays or dominate on either side of the ball.

Well Coast 2 Coast you gave out a winner and I had the Raiders straight up on the moneyline. I look at the preseason games as to get ready for the season and mostly go on the better backups.

Looking at a few unders for this first full weekend of the NFLX season. My favorite of the weekend is the Saints-Tits under 35-1/2.

Thursday night play
Philadelphia -3 vs. Cleveland
With this being the 2nd preseason game for the Eagles in just four days, expect the first unit of the Eagles to play more than one series. Also expect the reserves to perform better than they did the first game. The Browns appear to be in a bit of a mess. Besides trying to groom a young QB with a makeshift OL now suddenly missing its center, the Browns are without enough key guys to field a respectable starting NFL lineup. Eagles appear to be a much deeper team and that usually spells a W in these games.

Friday Night Play
Bears -1 +100 @ SF
(Line is -1-1/2 at most places but -1 available at outs like Skybook with free half point)

Bears QB rotation with three guys who have started in the NFL gets slight edge over SF rotation of Smith, Pickett, Palmer and Dilfer. 49ers run game will have edge considering Bears' injuries. However, Bears D is the best unit on the field and Bears have decided edge on defense...including the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams. Maybe the Bears D scores in this low-scoring game. Just win baby.

NFLX: 2-1
Saturday Plays
New Orleans-Tennessee under 35-1/2
Tennessee is a team that doesn’t look very good on offense. And New Orleans is putting in an entirely new system. So what if Reggie Bush and Vince Young play in this game. It will be their first games against NFL defenses. Saints are putting in an entirely new offensive system. I expect some rust.

Carolina -3 vs. Buffalo
Dick Jauron is another coach putting in a new system. Jauron and GM Marv Levy both never showed much interest in winning preseason games. He will want to work on the run game. Until last year, Carolina coach Fox looked like a guy that likes to win preseason games. He had won and covered 10 straight until last year’s 1-3 mark. Their last game was the loss in the NFC Champ. Even though this is a meaningless first preseason game, some of the Carolina players sound a little like they want a W.

I like the Redskins tonight. With no Carson Palmer, don't know how much the Bengals will show much on offense. With all the talk about Jason Campbell, he'll try to do some more to show he should be the starting quarterback. I think the Redskins are favored by 1, so I LOVE THE REDSKINS!!!

No NO no

I know it is the morning after but when I heard heard the Skins Backup Qb is Todd Collins who came over from KC to teach the Skins the Al Saunders Offense.

I looked up Todd Collins Stats, assuming Brunell would play little, and it was terrible.

any good Bear fan remember the life and time of Jonathan Quinn/ The worst! I jumped on Cinci and Todd Collins came through for me nicely.

It looks like Jason Campbell should be the backup for the 'Skins. Since it looks what I type, you should go the other way, I'll go with something Big Fan posted earlier with the Raiders starters playing more, I like the Raiders tonight and as an added bonus, the new Monday Night Crew tonight.

NFLX: 3-2

After skipping last week, I'm going to play one in week 3:

Indy -3-1/2 vs. Nawlins at Jackson, Miss.
Both teams will play starters into the third quarter and Indy has game-planned for this one. Nawlins has had a short week after the Monday night game in which they were waxed at Dallas. Both teams have questions, but with a new offense and new players at key positions, the Saints surely have more.
