I don't know how many of you happened to catch the Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode "The Great Recession" on Thursday but I thought it deserved a mention. I have been a fan of Always Sunny for the past few years and was really looking forward to this season and while I thought that the first two episodes were mediocre this 3rd episode was abysmal. The shameless product placement for Dave and Busters and Coors was so over the top it was hard to watch. And i realize that advertisers are scrambling for new ways to get the word out about their products with the popularity of the DVR and its wonderful commercial skipping features but can't they do it without ruining one of the best shows on TV? In short I am boycotting both Dave and Busters and Coors cause of this trainwreck. Give me a Pabst Blue Ribbon thanks.

Phil - it was bad and I am probably one of the shows biggest fans. I was considering going to see "The Night Man" if it came to Chicago lol.

But yeah this integrated product placement just doesn't work - it takes away too much from the comedy of the show. 30 Rock got slammed for doing it as well last year so why didn't the guys figure out that this was a bad idea?

That's the way I took it too. Took the check then mocked the advertisers. Product placement has been around forever and will only increase. most of my favs are filled with it (seinfeld, 30 rock)

I've liked all the eps this season, but they set the bar so high its hard to for them to top themselves, imo.

First 3 eps have been great !!

As someone who has gone as Greenman for Halloween in the past, I was disappointed w/the product placement but enjoyedthe episode. I actually watched the episode with someone who had never seen the show before and he thought it was funny.

I guess I would have had less of a problem with it if it was handled in a way that made me laugh. The problem is it didn't.

I noticed it but it didn't really bother me. Don't you think they did that on purpose to make fun of the recession as they packed the whole episode with the sponors? Anyway the road trip episode was better than the recession episode.

i think in fact, buryman may have been on to something--or you know, they could've been just inside joshing and the sponsors didn't even pick up on it.

it was a funny episode.

They are reaching new levels of awesomeness with each episode.

I think it's safe to say that this show is back on track after the sponsor sell out episode - last night was great again.

Product placement started with E.T when Reeses pieces was used as the candy instead of M&M. If you're going to boycott show and movies that use product placement you're not gonna be watching very much at all. It was a very good episode, and because it's so uncharacteristic for them to do something like that it was funny.

that episode was probably the hardest i've laughed at a TV show this season. from start to finish i loved this episode.
