Could we have put Chicago Oven Grinders in the "MOST OVERRATED SECTION"

Granted, I have not been to this place in years, my Mom always loved it growing up, so we went about once every 2 years and I just found it a bad tasting product and as you can see I have had a few pizzas http://Redacted.com/pizza.htm updated a few places as well.

They had the good Med Bread way before it was hip, which is what I ate when I went there. Always willing to go back and maybe my taste buds have developed to appreciate this semi spaghetti sauce poseing as Pizza!

Don't take this the wrong way, great book for the bathroom! No other major issues.

just saw that for the first time. you have Lou Malnatis on the top of your list? it's your opinion, so it can't be wrong, but that is just really unfortunate and not having giordano's on the list makes baby jesus cry.

edit: just saw that you lumped them with some other pizza place, 7 is respectable.

Yeah I think you should try Milano's on 110th & Western in beverly, my go-to pizza while growing up. It's more of a cracker style crust, but the cheese is insanely good, not sure if it's a mix or straight mozz but it's like crack. they also give you an insane amount, sometimes i ask for extra sauce to balance it out better. stuffed very good too. and the owner looks like mario from super mario brothers, he's about 4' 8", very cute and very funny

In all honesty, of the pizza places I have tried on his list, I think his list is right on with how I would rank them. I would put Gino's East a little lower on my list since they have not been anywhere near the quality pizza they were back in the days.

Now I have to throw BigFan some pizza places to try...

No "Home Run Inn" on the list? I'm a little surprised by that considering how comprehensive of a list you have. You went to Crystal Lake for Bill's? I thought it was in Mundelein.

I have one for you to try. Hit a place called Dominick's (not the grocery store) on Saint Charles Road in Villa Park. Very good thin crust.

I have enver had the original Home Run Inn, but had many a frozen and I would guess that a fresh one is good, so maybe a ranking based on that is warranted.

And I while I will go out of my way for a pizza to a paint, I don't see me going to Beverly for a pizza. But if I am around, I would grab one to go.

I was not sure where Bills was, just had some people drag me there from Buffalo Grove.

Rock's biggest problem with the book is that Finfer has a list in there and he doesnt. He couldnt get over it on air last night. Good stuff.

My biggest problem with the book is that it's a hackneyed indulgence of ego that any self-respecting author should be ashamed to put his name on.

Big Fan, go to Connie's on 23rd and Archer. Don't judge their pizza on just what's sold at sporting events. They have a great thin crust, and even their Deep dish is good. There are also restaurants in Naperville, Orland Hills and Westmont, but I know the one in the City is good.

Define "stepping stone". Undoubtedly there will always be a niche publisher out there to carry whatever Dan McNeil might want to write, however awful (I'm sure his book is better than Coppock's or North's, and they got deals. Of course, I'm not going to open either of the later two). He's not going to sell any of these things in any substantial numbers, so he won't have anything to point at in that regard.

But most importantly, it takes no effort whatsoever outside of the gruntwork of ordinary writing to produce something like this. Think up a bunch of topics, hit wikipedia, throw some shit against a wall, and hope for a couple of royalty checks big enough to justify the relatively small amount of time spent.

McNeil claims he plans on writing the ultimate expose of Chicago sports media when all is said and done. That would be a legitimately interesting read, so long as it doesn't turn into an excercise in CYA and legacy-protection, as these retirement fuck youes tend to be. But I don't see why a few navel-gazing dormroom ruminations will help or hinder that book, or any other.

In fairness I dont think Mac considers himself an author. If you need Ed Sherman to ghostwrite you are not an author. He's a radio host doing a book. I think it was in "The Bad Guys Won" its recalled that Lenny Dykstra made fun of Tim Tueffel for always fuckn reading. Years later Dykstas book was published. Lenny Dykstra...he doesnt read books, he writes em. Point is you know Mac is not an author. Its a coffee table book type. I like lists Not enough to buy a book of em though

I think McNeil would resist the idea that the book was ghost-written, and I believe that they tried to specify which author wrote which section. I'm certainly willing to take him at his word on that.

Maybe Im mistaken but I thought it was being promoted as Ed Sherman ghostwriter. Its a duel author book? Thats even worse. Do you consider him an author? What about the rest of the lists? Are Finfer, Doug_EP, or North authors? Maybe Doug Either way I dont know why youre expectations are where there at. I agree the sportsradio tell all will be good but itll be good for the insider knowledge, not the writing.

Why do they call it "future book"?

Oven Grinders isn't very good at all. Been there once, totally underwhelmed in every aspect.

As for the book, it wasn't what I expected it to be, but I'm sure it'll do well enough. I furtively skimmed North's book at a Barnes & Noble back in July. It was pretty awful. This should at least be better than that.

If this list book does even okay then he has leverage to get a little more $ from the publishing company or use a better than niche publisher. It gives them some #s and an idea of how many people might purchase the far more interesting story.

I thought about future book after I posted and decided to let it go.
