According to Bill Madden of The NY Daily News, the Royals have agreed to send the versatile Mark Teahen to the White Sox in exchange for Chris Getz and Josh Fields. Madden says Teahen is expected to replace free agent-to-be Jermaine Dye in rightfield.

The 28-year-old Teahen hit .271/.325/.408 last year, but is a career .261/.325/.514 hitter at U.S. Cellular Field. FanGraphs has him at -2.0 UZR/150 in right, which is a massive upgrade over Dye's -17.5 mark. Teahen earned $3.575MM in 2009, and has two more years of arbitration eligibility ahead of him. He's certainly been the subject of many trade rumors over the years.

Getz, 26, was Chicago's every day second basemen for most of 2009, hitting .261/.324/.347 with 25 stolen bases in 27 attempts. Fields, 28, has struggled to find a place with the White Sox, hitting .229/.302/.416 in 746 plate appearances over the last four years while playing first, third, and left field. Both players are in their pre-arbitration years, and have a combined ten years of team control left.

Hmm...so does this mean Teahan plays 3rd instead of RF? Beckahm plays SS, Alexei goes back to 2nd?

If not, I don't like losing Chris Getz and his 90% steal rate.

I wonder if Ozzie went to Kenny and requested that he find some way, any way to get rid of Fields. I haven't seen much of Teahen, or the Royals for that matter.

Well, Teahen has talent thats for sure. ANd he's been a Sox killer over his career. But that doesn't translate to doing well for the Sox necessarily.

Kenny better have something up his sleeve for the infield though if Teahen is playing right.

Figgins will be 32 on Opening day next year and he just had his best (maybe 2nd best) year, in a contract year. Think he'll get better?

This would fit the need of having some left handed power. Hopefully he can catch a damn ball

Jeter is 35. Infielders in their 30s don't scare me. outfielders do...

Thats true. Although Stoneroses will throw up if he reads that comparison

Figgins had his highest OBP ever by 65 points...that seems odd.

What is the fascination from both sides of town with Teahan? His career average is .269 and OPS of .750. Why is he going to get better here? He's a role player.

ESPN Radio 1000's Bruce Levine told "Waddle & Silvy" last hour that the deal is "still very much in the rumor stage"... Meanwhile, Mark Teahen went on a K.C. sports station claiming he knows nothing of the deal, and supposedly nor does Chris Getz. I'm puzzled by the deal, if it becomes a reality. First, Jayson Nix may have hit 12 homers as a part-time second baseman, but there were defensive lapses whenever he played, even when Getz was injured. I don't think Nix is an upgrade by any means. Second, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Royals had a second baseman named Alberto Callapso... Third, I'm not so sure Teahen replaces Jermaine Dye in right field. Teahen might take over for Gordon Beckham at third base and that Gord becomes the full-time second baseman instead of shifting Alexei Ramirez from short.

Because he'll have much more protection in the lineup here.

I like the move, but I always seem to be in the minority about this sort of thing so that's all I'm going to say (until Teahen goes 30/100 on the season 8) )

just a few things abot teahen, he averages 125 k's a year, in 3 years has 56 errors, 13 of those as a outfielder and has a obp of 331, not to mention his 211 career average with risp.....this guy is very much a role player as someone stated.

If Mark Teahen is indeed on board, where does he play? My 2010 outfield has Scott Podsednik in left field, Alex Rios in center & Carlos Quentin shifting over to right. If Teahen plays anywhere, he plays third base with Gordon Beckham shifting over to second base.

Sox also interested in Jeff Blauser?

I'll wait to see if there is a follow up move but if the plan is to play Nix at 2B and Teahen in RF then I don't like it.

One thing about Kenny, he sure doesn't waste any time.

I agree with this completely. But you have to think that KW has another move in mind. I am not a big Teahen fan, he is ok, but nothing special.

I guess when you factor in the Jermaine Dye buyout/dumping, it is.

Weird outfield next year: Pods/Rios/Teahen

can't really gauge this deal yet, on the first day after the WS.

That being said, it's hard to see how any position has been upgraded as of now...

ESPN's Keith Law loves the Mark Teahen trade for the Royals, noting that they traded one average player close to free agency for two average players with several years of team control left

looks like kenny didn't win this one....
