These are the type of deals that seem to work out for Kenny. I think you've got to give this one some time.

Since when is Fields average? He strives for average.

I don't know how the trade will work in the big picture, but I expect Getz will end up being one of those Sox killer types for the next 5 years.

I wouldn't say he is the best, getz may have the most upside. Teahan has driven in 100 runs, I believe.

I guess when you factor in the Jermaine Dye buyout/dumping, it is.

Weird outfield next year: Pods/Rios/Teahen

Real weird where is CQ?????????????????????????????????

Good point.

CQ/Rios/Teahen?

Unless Teahen goes to 3rd.

My guess would be that Teahen plays second.

Sox need the left handed bat.

I was never that enamored with Getz or Fields.

Helps both teams.

Royals Trade Mark Teahen To White Sox?
By Mike Axisa [November 5 at 5:30pm CST]

5:30pm: The story keeps changing. Now, according to MLB.com's Dick Kaegel, neither team has confirmed the deal.

11:13am: The White Sox have confirmed the trade, according to The Chicago Sun Times. It's Teahen for Getz and Fields.

10:17am: ESPN's Buster Olney says talks are "not that far along." Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun Times mentions that Getz hasn't heard anything about a trade.

9:04am: According to Bill Madden of The NY Daily News, the Royals have agreed to send the versatile Mark Teahen to the White Sox in exchange for Chris Getz and Josh Fields. Madden says Teahen is expected to replace free agent-to-be Jermaine Dye in right field.

The 28-year-old Teahen hit .271/.325/.408 last year, but is a career .261/.325/.514 hitter at U.S. Cellular Field. FanGraphs has him at -2.0 UZR/150 in right, which is a massive upgrade over Dye's -17.5 mark. Teahen earned $3.575MM in 2009, and has two more years of arbitration eligibility ahead of him. He's certainly been the subject of many trade rumors over the years.

Getz, 26, was Chicago's every day second baseman for most of 2009, hitting .261/.324/.347 with 25 stolen bases in 27 attempts. Fields, 28, has struggled to find a place with the White Sox, hitting .229/.302/.416 in 746 plate appearances over the last four years while playing first, third, and left field. Both players are in their pre-arbitration years, and have a combined ten years of team control left.

Why again does everyone love Chris Getz so much?

Speed, something the Sox do not have a lot of. There were a lot of questions about a lot of positions going into this offseason. I don't think 2nd base was one of them. Now it is, unless Kenny has another pretty big move up his sleeve.

Chris Getz seems like another Triple A all-star. Fundamentals, yes, attitude, check(?), talent/major league ability...well...two outta three ain't bad.

Come on, the guy was in his first year and was an acceptable second baseman. He certainly was not a AAAA type.

I expect his OBP to rise more towards his minor league averages this year and with 25 steals, he looks like a very good ninth hole hitter to me.

The real question now is, who leads off?

Other players that a majority of Sox fans / Chicago media were disappointed to see go at that time:

Rocky Biddle, Jeff Liefer, Jeff Abbott, Jon Rauch, Royce Ring, Aaron Miles, Jeremy Reed, Chris Young and they all sucked or continue to suck

Please add Chris Getz and Josh Fields to the list...

Getz seems like a nice guy,I hope he does well in KC but he won't. He is the very definition of average and has a very low ceiling...as a Sox fan I have higher expectations..my goal is to see the Sox acquire and develop above average players. Since Kenny has been GM, we've won over 90 games once in 9 years.

Is Teahen the answer? Of course not, I'm completely indifferent to the trade....also it's November, so who knows how this is gonna play out, maybe he'll flip Teahen...it's just another classic case of Kenny playing pass the trash and getting another former high level prospect and I have no problem with that I guess, its worked for him before....Teahen was a first rounder and got all that pub in Moneyball, total Kenny move.

One other stat I noticed re: Teahan is that he lead the league in GIDP in 2007. Ouch.

Look at this Teahen's numbers.
Kenny Williams loves guys that strike out.
I guess he feels the need to replace Swisher with this guy.
Sometimes Kenny trades like he is a kid with baseball cards....this guy gets some big hits against my team, so I have to have him.

ESPN Radio 1000's Bruce Levine told "Waddle & Silvy" last hour that the deal is "still very much in the rumor stage"... Meanwhile, Mark Teahen went on a K.C. sports station claiming he knows nothing of the deal, and supposedly nor does Chris Getz. I'm puzzled by the deal, if it becomes a reality. First, Jayson Nix may have hit 12 homers as a part-time second baseman, but there were defensive lapses whenever he played, even when Getz was injured. I don't think Nix is an upgrade by any means. Second, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Royals had a second baseman named Alberto Callapso... Third, I'm not so sure Teahen replaces Jermaine Dye in right field. Teahen might take over for Gordon Beckham at third base and that Gord becomes the full-time second baseman instead of shifting Alexei Ramirez from short.

Defense doesn't seem to matter to Kenny Williams.
Maybe this latest strikeout machine is a clubhouse rah rah guy that will respond to Kenny's threats!!!!

The only way this move makes sense is if Teahan is brought here to play 3rd base..........I would move Beckham to 2nd then.......Teahan came up as a 3rd baseman and should be allowed to play one position. If he's being traded for to play RF....Then I dont like the deal as much......

FRIDAY, 8:40am: Mum's still the word from all involved, according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune. Late last night, Teahen tweeted that he hadn't heard anything official.

THURSDAY, 5:30pm: The story keeps changing. Now, according to MLB.com's Dick Kaegel, neither team has confirmed the deal.

I hope this deal falls apart. Money and prospects are holding up the rumored deal which neither team has confirmed. Besides, Mark Teahen & Chris Getz in particular know nothing about the deal.
