Does anyone think that Griese deserves a chance against a first team defense? I don't think that Grossman fits the Bears system because he wants to make plays but the Bears only what a quarterback who can make simple plays. Griese is a veteran quarterback who knows what to do and make the third down plays while Rex is a little to agressive. The only reason why Rex is still the starter because he's Angelo's boy and Angelo needs Rex to suceed to prove that he is a good GM. Its the same situation with Benson and Jones. The bears need Griese to start if they want to do anything in the playoffs because right now the Bears have the same team as last year, no offense and a great defense.

Defense was brutal on 3- and long last year and I dont think that's gonna change. If Grossman doesn't lead them on a few TD drives in GB week 1, I wouldn't mind a switch. Both will be hurt at some point.

Conventional wisdom is that Grossman's upside is greater. Conventional wisdom is often wrong. Grossman is a guy who had ONE decent college season when he happened to be the QB on a team led by (at that time) the college game's most ingenius offensive mind. IMO, he has shown little evidence he has the skills, vision or decision-making required to be a quality NFL starter. To answer your question, yes Griese deserves a chance against a #1 D, but he isn't going to get it. Angelo and Lovie don't want a QB competition and will do nothing to fuel such a competition. They want to give Grossman every opportunity to prove they knew what they were doing when they drafted him. As a result, they will give Grossman an extraordinary number of opportunities to succeed. Angelo and Lovie won't admit they were wrong by giving up on Grossman, so the Bears will be stuck with him. They will likely stay with him until the bitter end or another injury to Grossman gives them convenient cover to replace him. I don't expect them to admit that Rex isn't good enough, even after the Bears lose games because of bad QB play in games they should win based on talent. Nas, who is a Grossman supporter, said it very well by noting simple mistakes that Grossman makes that NFL-calibre QBs cannot and do not make. Griese may not be "the answer", but at least he won't lose many games with dumb mistakes like throws into coverage or bad choices on reads. Grossman will.

a great defense.

I'd reserve the adjective for a while after seeing how a rookie QB (Leinart) with almost no camp under his belt methodically picked it apart.

Well, the D was missing Alex Brown, Mike Brown, Ian Scott, and Tank Johnson.

Still, they did look awful...

Dusty Dvoracek has played like a clown so far.

Does this year remind anyone else of 2002? The Bears have a great season in '01 everything goes their way, the team buys into the hype the next year, and fails miserably. This is a team that came into training camp cocky, Lovie did nothing but enforce that cockiness by not making them hit, not making them work, not getting them conditioned. Now we see a team who is over-aggresive on defense, going for the explosive tackle rather than just getting the damn tackle. I see this defense huffing and puffing in between plays, they don't have that chip on their shoulder anymore. Lovie needs to get this team to wake up or we are in for a major disappointment this season.

Many reporters have noted that the Bears are behaving as though they made it to the Superbowl last year.

This attitude is troubling, especially given the number of close games they played last year and will probably play again this year.

Nas, I'm right there with ya. I think Grossman has that "thing" about him. Hopefully he can back it up with his play but I do think he's going to be a good QB.

It amazes me that the same team that went into the Carolina game cocky, then got thoroughly schooled, could still be cocky. What the hell makes them think they're so damn good? Try being a little humble guys, or someone WILL humble you.
