I always thought this guy was way overrated with the glove... I can't stand how he just coasted out there.

Still, as a 4th or 5th outfielder, this can't really hurt.

He might get significant at bats as DH.

Still, for $500K, anything you get out of him is worth it.

Andruw Jones gives lurid testimony at strip club trial

Wednesday, July 25, 2001 | 11:54 AM ET
CBC Sports

Atlanta Braves outfielder Andruw Jones testified Wednesday he had intercourse with two women from the Gold Club in a hotel room while owner Steve Kaplan watched.
Jones, a regular customer at the strip club, said he was invited to a private party by a Gold Club employee and escorted there by limousine on a night in late 1996 or early 1997.

He said he arrived at the hotel room to find two women "doing lesbian action." Jones testified he had intercourse with the two women, with Kaplan and several other men in the room watching.

Jones said he later recognized the two women in the Gold Club. Prosecutors did not ask Jones if the women worked there as strippers.

Testifying hours before the Braves were to play an afternoon game against the Cincinnati Reds, Jones said he never paid for the sex and did not know in advance that sex was part of the party.

"I just know it was a party, and there were girls there," he said.

Jones was a prosecution witness in the government's racketeering case against Kaplan and six associates.

Prosecutors say Kaplan used the lure of sex to attract professional athletes and celebrities while cheating customers to funnel cash to New York's Gambino crime family. The defendants are charged with obstruction, credit card fraud, loan sharking and other charges.

I'm going out on a limb that he in penciled in as starting CF with Qunetin and Rios flanking him.

At 500K a bargain, but would much rather have Coco Crisp in town.

Huh. Didn't see this one coming. I guess he's okay as a 4th or 5th outfielder and DH against lefties. This moves also buys Jordan Danks a little more time in AAA.

First Vizquel and now Jones. All the pieces seem to be falling in place for the Sox to make a serious run for the title.

In 1999.

Maybe Jones will teach Viciedo how to eat his way back to Cuba.

I'm a little puzzled by this move, only because Andruw Jones happens to be a Scott Bora$ client. As we all know, White Sox fans, Uncle Jerry doesn't like Bora$ and has been very outspoken in his dislike for the agent ever since a certain free agent signed for $252 million with the Texas Rangers and now is a World Series Champion with the New York Yankees, Alex Rodriguez.

Was Alex Fernandez a Boras client waybackwhen? I thought(?) that was where the disdain began?

I'm not sure about Alex Fernandez, but Uncle Jerry's disdain for Scott Bora$ came at the Winter Meetings one year when Alex Rodriguez was the biggest name in MLB's free agent market, circa 2002 I believe. Long before A-Rod signed with the Rangers and eventually got dealt to the Yankees, Jerry Reinsdorf was supposed to meet with Rodriguez & Bora$. As the story goes, the White Sox Owner/Chairman felt as if he was stiffed just as the Sox were going to meet with him & his agent. Basically, Reinsdorf was so irate at Bora$ back then, that the Sox stopped doing business with him. That may also explain why the likes of Magglio Ordonez ended up going to Detroit and Joe Crede to Minnesota in recent years.

I pretty much go with the theory that Jones is probably at least a few years older than his bio suggests, he was playing in the Series when he was supposedly 18. Then he was probably on teh juice, and he knows that he is a shell of his former self and is lucky to even be on a roster at this point.

Any GM on any team can deal with Scott Boras clients when those clients are completely 'dried up' and have absolutely no leverage when negotiating a contract.

Jones,Vizquel, and Teahan? Do they make this team better? I think Kenny better address the bullpen.

That may have been where the disdain started but the last straw was the negotiations with '02 top pick Royce Ring. After the Sox failed to sign him is when they said they would never deal with a Scott Boras player again.

That was when Reinsdorf was going to "kidnap" A-Rod and make him an offer outside the presence of the agent....Reinsdorf tried to pull that crap on Horace Grant.

Bad info Shark. Jerry wanted to meet with A Rod ALONE. Without Boras. So Boras went ahead and cancelled all Sox meetings and said thats not how it works and they know it.

Reinsdorf dislikes all agents. He has said so a few times, which I think is were he shows his true colors of being not the best guy in the world. The dealings with Horace Grant are a perfect example. Jerry and Horace alone in an office cutting Horaces next deal???? Then after they shake on it they called Horaces agent? Or when he puts the $22 million , 7 year deal in front of Scottie Pippen and his $1 million salary and told him 'not to sign it' so he can tell everyone he said not to sign it. This is like putting a pound of ground beef in front of a dog and telling him not to eat it.

Jerry Reinsdorf, Northwestern Law Grad, former IRS Tax Code Expert v. Horace Grant, Clemson Basketball player. Who would you take in any negotiations.

This issue also comes up when Jerry hires coaches as he will not deal with agents, if you work for him, and many coaches now, do hire agents to negotiate deals.

Jerry doesn't always win either. Scott Skiles got him on a the payment clause that said if he was fored, he got all his money, even if he gets another job in the league. So Skiles gets paid this years and last, but the Bucks and the Bulls.

You may have Ring confused with guys like Bobby Seay and Bobby Hill.

And no way Scott Boras actually was on the phone with Jerry or Kenny for this deal. I am sure some junior guy handled the $500K deal. Thus the deal was quick and easy.
