Mini-series on the History channel, narrated by Gary Sinise. I watched the first episode, and have the others on my DVR. It runs through the rest of the week. Sor far it's been pretty damn good. Here the link to the website, but if you click on it, make sure your speakers are turned down because a video starts playing right away.

Caught some of it last night and was mesmerized. Seeing some of the pacific footage gets me pumped for the Pacific Band of Bros.

OH. MY. GOD. Dammit, I don't have HBO though. My Grandfather was a Marine and fought on IwoJima, Guadalcanal etc.

Does HBO have their shows on Hulu or anything?

I usually love everything related to WWII, but I find this show to be pretty dry. The color footage is cool, but the actual content of the footage usually pales in comparison to the stuff we've already seen through the years. 90% of it seems to be soldiers just sitting around.

And they cut back and forth between locations so often that its hard to keep track of everything and really get drawn in to each individual story.

Also, way too much focus on the Pacific for my liking. I want to see Nazi's, not Japs. It seems like the coverage is about 80% pacific and 20% ETO. At least that's the way it's been through the first 4 episodes (all I've watched so far).

I am a serious WW 2 Buff. I think this is excellent.

As far as Caillou it's not bas bad as Barney or such but it is bad. WTF would name a child Caillou?

Don't even get me started on Calliou.

Just finished all of the episodes. I wanted to see more about D-Day. They basically ignored that 2 day event. I wanted more of the factual stories as opposed to what we are fed from Hollywood with Saving Private Ryan. That was disappointing.

I did, however, learn that the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were years apart from the Pearl Harbor bombing. I thought those bombings were in retaliation for the Pearl Harbor attack but it wasn't. It just got us involved into the war.

Yes, they all had the last name Ryan. Overall, things didn't work out too well for them.

No offense meant, but it would be amazingly disturbing if you are being serious with this post.

I know Big Ern can probably speak for himself, but isn't that part of the reason we watch these History Channel shows; to learn more about things we may have missed when we were growing up? That being said, I did know that Hiroshima and Nagasaki weren't retaliation for Pearl Harbor. Possibly your worst post ever, Big Ern! :P

Sorry, I am not buying this. The fact that the bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki were at the end of the war is about as close to "common knowledge" as can be reasonably imagined. If not, then our educational system is more pathetic than even I had thought.

As it turns out, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was not actually assassinated in retaliation for the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
