Looper interested in pitching for Cubs

Free agent starter Braden Looper, who lives in the Chicago area during the offseason, said during a Monday telephone interview that he'd be interested in pitching for the Cubs in 2010.
"That would be appealing," he said. "You've got to see what your options are. I don't know if they're looking for a starting pitcher, since they have a new owner. But I'm living in Chicago, and I've got three kids in school here, so that would be nice.
"I'm going to look around and see what my options are."
The Brewers declined their $6.5 million mutual option on Looper last month. He received a $1 million buyout and became a free agent, after going 14-7 with a 5.22 ERA in 34 starts this year. After spending most of his career in the bullpen, he has started for the past three seasons.
Looper, 35, said there's "not a lot going on right now" as far as his discussions with clubs. Looper has spent his entire big-league career in the National League and acknowledged that the NL is a "comfort zone" for him.
"I'm pretty open to anything," Looper said. "Even when the Brewers declined my option, they said they were interested in bringing me back. So, I'm sitting back and seeing what happens."
The right-hander's uncle, Benny Looper, is a high-ranking executive with the Phillies. They are one of the many teams that could add a starting pitcher this offseason.
"You never know," Looper said, when asked about the possibility of pitching for his uncle's team. "He's such a character guy that he would let somebody else make that sort of decision. He wouldn't let his heart get in the way of his head." -- Jon Paul Morosi

Hey Ricketts, the Cubs weren't worth a hot shit in a silk bag until they had a shocker of a season under Dusty Dude. The fans aren't going to take another 20 years like the 70's and 80's and keep your silk bag with the aforementioned hot shit the hottest ticket in town. All it takes is say a coaching change and Rose to turn into a superstar and suddenly all the suits are buying Bulls tickets to offset their tiny packages again. Or maybe the Hawks are only 8 months away from being the hot ticket.
THis schmuch is going to devalue this team. I can't believe this shit. Of course Looper thinks its a great fit, this is where players come to make tons of money and play like shit and Looper is certainly capable of that.
Goddamn fuck! I can't stand what's become of my favorite team.

There are no quotes from anybody in the Cubs organization saying they want Looper. Shut up and leave your blind misguided outrage at the door.

I wonder if that's an intentional misspell or he's trying to start something new. Either way

Well, look at you! You're an angry elf.
I didn't post the story, numb nuts. In fact...
You sound like one of those fagoos who cannot fuckin WAIT to dish out $120 for a box seat in the 114 section to see the Cubs put out the 2010 version of Bobby Scales, Aaron Miles, and the rest of the Mendoza Line Gang.
Go on, spend $240 on tickets (one for you and one for your sister whom you take to the games so you don't look quite as gay sitting next to a chick) to this years promised pooperfest. I hope you really dig green ivy, brick walls, old scoreboards and fallin concrete because it's looking like what's on the field this coming year won't be as entertaining as taking prop bets on which section is going to fall and land on some old man's head.

You're right troglodyte, you didn't post it. You did however make some dumb ass period rant about how Ricketts is already ruining the team when that's far from the case. This team as constructed right now will be competitive in the division, they had a very unlucky year last year with injuries and still won 85 games. If they can add an outfielder, a SP and maybe another bullpen arm they'll be fine.

But I guess whining and crying like a 5 year old is easier than actually thinking about things logically.

Troglodyte! Hilarious stuff, my bud. Ricketts is trying like hell to ruin this team. Ice rinks? Higher ticket prices? Questionable moves (or lack thereof) in the offseason?
But sure, after that awful collapse in 07 and 08 and that awful season in 09 all we need to do is add an outfielder and maybe a starter ab a bullpen guy and they're going to the World Series!
Try not to rot your teeth in the magical candy bubblegum world you live in.

Yeah winning the division and losing in the crapshoot playoffs in 2007 sucked. Winning 97 games and losing in the crapshoot playoffs in 2008 sucked. Having ARam miss 78 games, Soto regress to probably what he really is, Soriano have by far the worst year of his career, have Bradley be god awful, having Kevin Gregg give up 13 HR's as a closer and having Randy Wells as the teams best pitcher AND STILL WIN 85 GAMES.

I'm gonna go live in Candyland now, this team is terrible. There's no reason to think the players who made this team win 97 games will bounce back and hit for their career averages, that's just outrageous. I guess it was all Mark DeRosa.

Wait... a crap shoot? What are you smoking man? One game could be a crapshoot. This was 6 goddamn games with 0 wins. That's not luck, that's not a crapshoot, that's not karma or juju, it's fucking bad baseball.
There are not many players pulling their weight here. Lee, Ramirez, Wells and to a lesser extent Fukudome and Theriot. Everyone else was below expectations for one reason or another. Injury, famine, plague, who cares why. They're not a good team. They win 85 games in a division where they play the shitty Brewers, teh SUPER shitty Pirates, and the Shitty Reds. There's one competitive team in the division and they whallopped the Cubs this year. 85 games this year was bad considering their competition and EXPECTATIONS.
I say you're in meatball world because you looked at the 07 and 08's playoffs and you say crapshoot instead of crapped their pants.
I say you're in wonerworld because you think that Soto and Soriano and Zambrano just had a bad year instead of crapping their pants.
I say meaty because you thing that the season win total has something to do with success when the fucking team hasn't won a goddamn pennant since 45 and hasn't won a WS in over 100 goddamn years. You can tell me the Red Sox were successful with 97 wins, but you can't say the same for the Cubs. Not anymore. not until they have a title in the rearview mirror.
That's why it's unacceptable to a fan what has happened with this team since 07. That's why I have no faith in Ricketts. It's the same sinking ship, just a different owner.

Yes, I did say the playoffs are a crapshoot. One team gets hot and they can beat anyone, sometimes it happens. See: Rockies (2007) Astros (2005)

Reading is a skill. I said that Soto regressed to what he probably is.

What's the difference between having a bad year and "crapping their pants"?

Winning 97 games has always and will always mark an excellent team. I don't care what team it is.

All of this is just worthless babbling.

I guarantee Soto will be better this year.

Player - Geovany Soto
Actual Line - .218/.321/.381
Expected Line - .269/.365/.450
Comments - Just like I said last time, his sophomore slump is grossly overstated. He's a fine young catcher who just had terrible luck this year.

Based off of BABIP. He'll be around .260 this year I'd bet.

Just my 2c about him though. Continue with this good Cubs reading :thumleft:

It's been reported that he's lost some weight so hopefully that'll help some.
