Since Granderson is off to New York, Melky seems like he's very available. Jim needs to get on this now.

Interesting name. Off the top of my head, I'd say he's probably a .270 ish career hitter with about 15 homer average and 60 to 70 RBI's. I had him on my fantasy team last year and he started out great - I want to say his OBA is high 360's as a guess. They could do worse.

He is ok, but nothing special. Hendry better hope some of these prospects work out, since he is bulking at trading any of them. Wish the Cubs had the Yankees mentality. They win a World Series, and still make a huge trade.

Meh he's a guy. Having him play center? How much better can you expect him to be over Sam Fuld? Worth the money difference? Maybe, Maybe Not

Player - Sam Fuld
Actual Line - .299/.409/.412
Expected Line - .299/.409/.412

Fuld's 2009 BABIP. Do we think we can count on that over a full season?

I can't believe they didn't go after Granderson. Austin Jackson, Ian Kennedy and Phil Coke. Hendry could have EASILY topped that offer. An absolute steal for Cashman.

Too late - someone already posted - stupid multiple posts when the site freezes up.

About what I guessed with Cabrera - I think there are cheaper options that will give the same kind of production.

Isn't Baldelli a free agent?

He had some kind of condition that was misdiagnosed up until last year and it is treatable by medication.

I think he played a good majority of last year as Boston's 4th outfielder didn't he?

Edit - he looks like he pulled a hip flexor last year too - he may be one of those perpetually hurt type of guys.

I guess you are right - PASS.

Cameron > Melky. Both are old, but Cameron is a much better defender. But while Melky might edge Cameron out in AVG, Cameron has the big edge in power.

I'd take Cameron over Melky any day of the week.

agreed. Look at who Melky had hitting around him. Duh. No way he puts up those stats with lesser hitters around him. He doesn't play as good as defense as Fuld either. The Cubs could do worse than start Sam in center and leadoff.

Jesus, are you serious? Melky is 24, and is only going to get better.

Also, whoever said Sam Fuld...no we can't expect that for a full year. He's a fine defensive replacement but I don't want him anywhere near starting.

Melky is 24.

This is a bad sports thought. If you want to trust Fuld for 162 games leading off for you, you'll be enjoying the playoffs from home.

I said Fuld. Not that I think he's great, but is it worth spending money on just 'a guy' who will only perform marginally better than Sam? We do have a lot of holes that need filling and I rather have that extra money towards filling those.

If we we were/are able to land someone of Granderson's caliber then I think you talk about it. Too many holes to blow 10 mil on an average outfielder

Fuld>Cameron>Melky.

Don't pay money there. Spend it on the bullpen and a good shortstop if you're going to spend it. Go get DeRosa again to backup anywhere but short.

I'd love to have the Cubs get Derosa again.

DeRosa is not that good. For some reason he gave everyone here a chubby, but look what he did last year. He had a .696 OPS in Stl. Terrible.

I was speaking in general of the average CF available with Cameron specifically in mind (who made 10mil). I'm guessing Cabrera could be got for around 3 million a year, even then, pass. Doesn't do much for me and even that money could be put to better use elsewhere imo.

Some guys play better in different cities - plus he was moved mid season - that affects some players.

Derosa was solid here for the time he was here. For a utility/backup/potential 2bagger, we could do worse.

Look at Podsednik - guy was out of baseball before the Sox bring him back and he plays like it's 2005 again. Some times those things just happen.
