Shark=the ND Guy. Marshall was so solid out of the bullpen last year, I want to keep him there. I think he wants to be a starter, but you can't argue with the results he produced most of the year. Gorzelany is just a guy. I don't know /shrug. Fine to have on the team if/when someone gets injured or to start against a Pirate-esque team.

Cubs starting pitching wasn't bad last year, but they will need help this year for sure. I would rather see a lefty than another righty but honestly, there's nothing on this team that I wouldn't mind seeing replaced, DL being the only real exception. Or would you give up Lee for some prospects?? Thoughts for another thread.
Milton will be gone, don't think otherwise, so this keep Milton shit is nothing more than a pipe dream.

I have a feeling that there is much more to the story than what we are being told. What he did last year doesn't seem to warrant, on the surface, being told to pack your shit and get out before the season ends IMO. Yeah he's a douche and edgy and all that, but there has to more to the story.

For the first time in a long time I don't. This season left me with such a shitty feeling that I will need the winter to recharge my interest in this team of happy misfits.

This thread had the exact opposite effect on me. All this Milton Bradley talk is making me excited to watch the Bulls.

What is taking so long? Are the Cubs going to end up with Milton after all? Some zany last minute trade for some dude who we've never heard of while the Cubs eat the 20 mildo?
If no one wants him, which seems to be the case, let's run him out there for a hundred or so at bats before we cut him.

I dont know what milton's situation was back when he first broke into the league with cleveland, but if they didnt use up all of his options can't the cubs technically option him to AAA and then he would have the right to refuse it but it would void his contract?

He's not. Never has been.

Look I get that he's an asshole, I won't deny that, but to so blindly call him hot garbage is to simply regurgitate the bullshit you hear from sports radio, consistantly populated with meatball twerps, and what you get from the Mouthpiece of the Cubs, the Tribune.

So, to make a point about not regurgitating what you hear from sports radio you regurgitate the shit you hear on Waddle and Silvy "hot garbage", B&B "Meatball" and Murph "Mouthpiece of the Cubs"?

2yr/$23M + $2M buyout.

Last season he was 1-3 8.60 ERA in 6 starts. The year before he was 4-15 6.46 ERA in 28 starts.

I'd work hard to resurrect those Milwood negotiations. An AL left switching leagues is pure gold.

This is why I'm starting to hate this org.. they're just bullshit artists. All the people that "sources" have said are interested in MB have all denied it. they've all said they don't need the headache. Sounds like they can't do a damn thing with the guy.

But what's the other option? Attempt to stir up no interest at all. Should Jim come out and be like "Wow, we really f'd ourselves with this contract. We'll trade him for 10 cents on the dollar. Of course, you could just wait until we have to cut him and eat his salary and sign him for whatever you want."

Seriously, every team does this in every sport with bad paper.

I don't care how many teams do it. It's bullshit. The Cubs are lying to us, to the papers (who are stupid enough to buy that horseshit).
What's the other option? Spend you time working on getting this shitfest team better instead of planting horseshit news stories. Why should we believe ANYTHING coming out of this org is beyond me at this point.

One could argue that trying to stir up interest in Milton with real or unsubstantiated trade rumors could be considered spending time making the team better. If it doesn't accomplish anything, it's not like months have been wasted trying to fool the papers and other GM's. I guess I don't understand why you are mad about this? Just the way the business works.

If the Sox sign Putz, I'd trade Linebrink for Bradley and 12 million to equal out the salaries...and I think both teams would benefit.

Ok, can you say to me that say the Seattle GM is looking at the Chicago blogs and saying "Oh my, someone else could scoop up Milton Bradley, says so in the Tribune blogs, I better offer the Cubs some juicy prospects and pay all $20 million remaining". Hell no. Don't tell me that other GM's believe this crap and it has an effect on helping the team.
Either the team is lying, or the "Journalist" is making shit up so he can meet his deadline.
either way it's garbage.
But just throwing lies out there is not how "business works".

Do you think this hurts? What are the negative ramifications? With the amount of bad money around the league, I don't think it's crazy to assume that there is a GM who might be slightly interested if a Milton rumor starts to get enough legs.

No, which is exactly my point. There are some terrible GM's, so why not try?

Come on Northside_Dan... you're telling me it doesn't bother you to have this kind of bullshit and manipulation imposed upon you? It's just more happy candy shit from an Org that is really turning to crap.

Maybe I've become desensitized to this kind of stuff following politics/our government. But I don't take this stuff to personally when it comes from a organization/team/business that I chose to follow. I don't care how you get it done, make the team better. Float rumors, make smart trades, raise ticket prices if necessary etc. If they want to put on a 'happy candy' front to attempt to preserve what they believe is their public face or whatever their reasons are...fine, whatever. Do what you got to do. Put a quality product on the field every year with a realistic chance for a championship and I'll be happy. With their payroll and resources, there is no reason that shouldn't be every fans expectations.

Hendry doesn't want to 'equal out the salaries'. He's trying to find someone to pay as much of the remaining $21M on Bradley's contract as possible so he can use that 'savings' to fill other holes on the roster. Just swapping bad contracts and evening out the money won't accomplish what they are trying to do.

Isn't "what they're trying to accomplish" getting rid of a clubhouse cancer? of course if they can do it w/o throwing in a ton of cash that would be preferable, but isn't just getting rid of him what they're trying to do?

And... I'm not that upset. This site seems to be full of guys wanting to jump on you and call you an idiot instead of passionately discussing our favorite team. I don't get that. What the hell is wrong with you guys?
I like talking sports. My friends are all trekkies and gamers. They wouldn't know a fastball from a spitball, and they think Uncle Charlie is their Mother's brother. I know there's blogs all over the place. So I pulled up google and searched "Chicago Sports Fans Discussion Group" and this was the first hit. I came here. I don't care about much else really but the Cubs talk.

Welcome obviously. I'm more than happy to discuss all things Cubs 24/7. I liked our discussion and hope you stick around for bitching during the season.

Another good website if you want strictly Cub/Baseball talk is http://www.nsbb.com.
