Boy, you know this is a bad deal when Keyser Soze isn't texually fellating Kenny Williams afterwards.

This is the worst trade this town has seen since a certain QB was sent to Denver :P

Guess, I'm the only one who likes this trade. With the dump truck of cash coming over in this deal, it's very palatable financially.

While Pierre has a noodle arm, he's playing LF and his abilty to play the ball in the air and cover ground is much better than Pods. Also, this guy rarely strikes out and can steal some bases at an equal clip to a healthy Pods.

The prospects they gave away were fringe prospects at best. Ely tops out in the mid-80s and Link has seriously regressed over the last 2 years. Neither are major league ready for 2010.

Add a LH Thumper for DH (Adam Dunn???) and this team is very, very interesting in 2010.

It's not the most exciting move, but they are only paying Pierre $8mm over the next two years, which is less than what Pods was asking..

This is a damn good move for the Sox.

That lineup is pretty damn good if Paulie hits, Rio's returns to what he used to be, Jones gets back to cycling something anabolic, etc. With that pitching the Sux should be the front runners in the central.

I agree - at this price, less than what Pods was demanding, it's not bad. Pierre has an atrocious arm, but makes up for it by getting to balls that would normally be in gaps. If the Sox were taking on the entire salary as I thought they were, it would be a bad deal.

If that were the case, you would be 1000% correct. Still trying to figure out how Andruw Jones and Juan Pierre talked the Dodgers into giving them that kind of money.

This does make for an interesting situation in the Sox outfield now.

Do you think Pierre and Andru platoon at all or is Pierre given the full time job?

I would think that Quintin might see some days at DH and Andru spells him there as well.

Part of it depends on what they do at DH, but Kenny said today that his starting OF is Pierre in Left, Rios in Center and Quentin in Right. I think, to your point, Jones spells all three - probably 2 starts a week if he's hitting more than .240. I think Jones is also a late inning defensive replacement at either of the corner outfield spots. He's too fat to spell Rios for defensive purposes and Rios has a pretty good glove.

There is a fair amount of risk in this lineup, but the upside potential is interesting. I like that we have some guys that can move around the bases as the station to station team the last several years became tough to watch.

Kenny is one of the best GM's in the league at switching teams on the fly while not rebuilding. He has changed the chemistry and makeup of this team dramatically in the last year.

I am so jealous of the Sox and their GM. He is the best GM in Chicago right now in all the sports. I don't think it can really be debated. Ok, maybe the Hawks GM gives him a run but still...

I think the Hawks GM has done an outstanding job at talent acquistion, I'm just not sure he (or Tallon, not sure who to blame yet) can manage a salary cap.

Bulls GM - BAD
Cubs GM - Asleep and when awake - BAD
Bears GM - BAD

I would say Tallon and Kenny are the best this town has to offer. Can't really compare across sports, but what Tallon has done with a young team by infusing some veteran talent and speed to the first and second lines, along with Kenny's ability to take an old, slow softball team and make it a younger, more athletic, pitching rich team is pretty impressive.

I think the Sox are hoping for too many bounce back years with this lineup. There is really no power hitter in a park where power hitting is a priority.

Apologist, it's my understanding that Scott Podsednik was hoping for a 3-year contract and asking for a great deal more $$$$ than what the White Sox wanted to give him...You are correct on two counts. The Juan Pierre acquisition isn't the most exciting move and they're only paying the above amount remaining on his contract. His best years are clearly in the scrapbook.

I've never seen Pierre's wife, but I'll wager that Podsednik's is hotter.

Good one. I'm ecstatic the Panzy will not be returning to the south side next season. I'm disappointed he's being replaced by Juan Pierre and not Chone Figgins. The money works and the prospects are nothing. I'll give Pierre a chance to win me over. In Kenny I Trust!

Quite an about-face on your part. You were right initially. Pierre is still a good base runner and might steal 30 for the Sox. But he is a guy that has a shockingly LOW on base percentage, for a guy that often has a good batting average. He has a worse arm than Lance Johnson did OR Podsednik, but he can still cover a lot of ground and takes good routes on the ball. But i fully expect him to struggle next season. He will be going to the A.L. and having to face a lot of pitchers he has not seen much, if at all. I predict Sox fans will HATE this aquisition by the all-star break and that he will no longer be a starter by then either. I like a lot of moves Kenny has made, but not this one.

In his best year he hit 24, what in the world makes you think he will get close to 30+? He was awful last year after coming to the Sox. I think good dolphin has hit the nail on the head. They are counting on way too many guys to have bounce back years.

The absolute worst thing about baseball season is that the brand comes out of the woodwork to call in his asinine thoughts to different radio shows. Om igmore here (thankfully), but sometimes I can't PTFB and I'm forced to listen to his sorry ass.

While I'm not a fan of Pierre as an everyday player, I've at least come around on the specifics of the deal. We're paying less than Pods wanted (after the Dodgers paid more than half Pierre's salary) for a better player than Pods.

Kenny did about all you could expect for a $3 million veteran outfielder, but the larger question is why he painted himself into that kind of corner in the first place (Alex Rios signing, anyone)?
