Jones and reed Johnson are a wash salary wise, and in Pierre and Rios you have two positions covered. If you had Bay you would still be short a starting center fielder and a leadoff hitter, both of which Reed Johnson are not

What I dont like is the $14 million + just spent on 3 guys that might be good.
How about signing Jason Bay and a journeyman OF like Reed Johnson?
The money spent in the OF is not impressive!

I think you are right on the mark....better to spend on a true star and a "decent role player" than has beens.
Kenny is re-visiting the demons that convinced him that he needed to aquire guys like Ken Griffey Jr. When the guy is into the downside of his career, better to take a pass.

When KW claimed Rios off waivers, he had to be prepared for Toronto to allow them to assume the contract. If he did not allow for that scenario in his thinking, he was short sighted. I find that hard to believe. I don't think he believed it would play out the way it did...I think he believed that he could offer up some minor league talent and Toronto could pay for a portion of the contract and thus come to an agreement. But then Toronto decided it liked the idea of just getting rid of the player AND the bloated contract better. But Kenny had to be prepared for that possibility.

Heres yet another post on the subject Rick-I was clear from the start that it was a dumb move.

I didn't say you did otherwise. You were against the Rios move right from the start. Congratulations. I don't get why you are spending time proving something I've never argued against.

Let me say this in words you can understand. We are talking about former White Sox PITCHER EDWIN JACKSON and you saying that you said from the start that the move was foolish.

However, this post you say once again shows the generic statements you make and then fill in the blanks later. You didn't actually give your opinion on it. You said what Kenny was trying to do and what he had to expect. There is no statement like "Kenny Williams made a mistake". Therefore, if Rios works out, you can just ignore it by saying "Well, I didn't say it was a bad move" but when Rios fails, you can say "I was against the move". That's why I think your thoughts are bad. You don't actually say anything.

Go bump the post where you said that the Edwin Jackson move was foolish since that's actually what we are talking about.
