The cubs traded a bad guy with a bad contract who is a decent baseball player for a bad guy with a bad contract who is an awful baseball player. $5M is the low end of what they should be getting back.

It's closer to a $2 1/2 million differnce between the two years on Silva's contract vs. Bradley's.

The money remaining on both contracts is similar. Bradley has $21 million left on his contract -- $9 million in 2010, $12 million in 2011. Silva has $25 million remaining -- $11.5 million in '10 and '11, with a $2 million buyout on a 2012 option.


Still, toss us some sort of bone to make up the difference.

The deal is done. The Cubs have traded right fielder Milton Bradley to the Seattle Mariners for right-handed pitcher Carlos Silva. The Cubs also will net $9 million out of the deal. We'll hear from Jim Hendry this afternoon.

Much better deal with the cash coming back in .... puts them up about $4MM from straight cutting of Bradley.

Still, leaves very little payroll flexibility and a big hole in the lineup.

I didn't think Hendry would be able to move Milton. I'm glad he proved me wrong today. The Mariners could've sent a bag of balls and a used bat rack and I would've been thrilled.

The humor is going to continue as Milton has a bounceback year and the Cubs give Silva a spot in the rotation at the beginning of the season.
