I would imagine that Hendry told Tom Ricketts some shit abaout how he will trade Milton for a player with a smaller contract and get some money back and then they focus on which player to get.

Obviousely, he couldn't do that, so he makes a trade to get rid of Milton so he can say "he made a trade!"

he could have cut Bradley in November and focused on signing any one of a number of journeyman or reclamation projects for the league minimums. Sheets? Smoltz? etc etc.

All this trade did was cost us time!

Let a Roto Geek run this team! Could not be worse!

Multiple people should be fired for the way the Milton Bradley situation was handled. If you decide he's a cancer and you want to trade him that's fine, but you have those conversations in private behind closed doors. The fact that he embarrassed Milton in front of the team and to the rest of the league by suspending him and then tried to talk up his value to trade him is an all timer in the rank of fucks up.

I am a Cub fan...but I would take Kenny Williams as GM in a heartbeat. Kenny at least is active & is signing guys. Nothing wrong with taking a $500K chance on Andrew Jones. Same with Pierre.
Meanwhile, the Cubs aren't doing anything. I am starting to get the impression that Ricketts doesnt want to rock the boat & is going to let things ride for 1 year. Wrong move & lack of leadership.
He should have fired Hendry immediately, bought out Lou's last year & named Sandberg the Manager. Instead, he says that the restrooms & food at Wrigley are priorities. Unreal.
The Cubs are in the same situation the Bears are in...a lame duck manager & head coach, in need of better players, & indecisive management incapable of pulling the trigger & making the tough decisions.
Thank God for McDonough & the Blackhawks!

I don't blame the Ricketts family for not taking a bunch of "crazy" actions. From their perspective, they plan to own this team for 100 years. From a financial standpoint, it probably makes sense from a risk/reward standpoint to see what can be done with Lou/Hendry and the money that is committed to that and then start to rebuild if necessary when those contracts are complete.

Our feelings of immediacy are not matched by theirs.

When a company needs to be fixed & they bring in a new guy at the top, he usually cleans house & brings in his own guys. The problem is that Ricketts probably doesnt have any Baseball guys. Still, I wish he would have made changes immediatly. He has nothing to lose & no where to go but up.

I don't see the Ricketts looking at themselves as an unlimited resources type group. So, it would be reasonable for them to come in and say "we're not going to make any big changes until we've settled in and had a chance to assess what is here"-- type group.

The Cubs got 6 million back in this deal. so they got rid of a salary they had to pay anyways and they got 6 million, it's not the worst way it could have gone down.

Yea Bigfan, I think you missed this. If you just cut him, that's fine... but with this trade you can "just cut" Silva if you want and still get $6Million to spend on Sheets or whatever.

+1

after what the cubs have been through the last 6 or 7 years, it is time to cool it with signings, stop the bleeding, and trade with the idea of getting rid of guys, not getting that "one guy" who will take the cubs to the "next level". taking flyers on andruw jones isnt what the doctor ordered, either. hes old, and he sucks, bad. everything doesnt have to be so kneejerk. if i were ricketts, id tell hendry "you built this team, you have one year to clean this shit up and back up the truck". no more blank checks until the old ones are accounted for.

It does not matter what Ricketts does with the team, some group of Cub fans will bitch about it.

Don't need to be immediacy, how about efficiency? Maybe The Ricketts clan can let us all in on the Hendry secret? Why he is good?

And I don't endorse Kenny $500,000 signings either.

i think hendry is as good as done, but i also think that ricketts is doing the right thing by not just firing people immediately. he needs to see what is broken before he can address fixing it. he needs to see what the organization is doing on a day-to-day basis, and see where things are going wrong. hendry is part of the problem, but the damage is so extensive ($$$) and far-reaching (contract years) on this team that fans will have to be patient to get it all undone before they try to rebuild things.

Hendry should be fired based on his performance last year. He had as bad a year as a GM can have. The worst thing an organization can do is not make the tough decisions when they need to be made. I dont think the Cubs should go out & sign a bunch of free agents...especially if Hendry is the guy doing the signing! Like the Bears, this is a lame duck (wasted) year for the Cubs, with Lou & Hendry surely gone after this year. I dont buy the "you have 1 year to fix this mess" crap. Hendry has had numerous years to fix it & it has gotten progressively worse. Same with the Bears.
I am tired of fucking waiting for things to be fixed. Have the balls to make the changes now that will be made in 1 year anyways.
Am I the only Cubs fan here who isn't impressed with the Cubs thus far in the offseason?

Why wouldn't Ricketts run this like a business, because they are the Cubs?

They found a taker for Bradley.

What is the beef?

I guess it would be better to let Milton Bradley act the fool and pretend no one knows what he is up to.

Because people like to complain about not getting rid of Bradley and Hendry/Ricketts not doing anything, then when Hendry gets rid of Bradley they like to complain about what was got for him even though those people just wanted to cut Bradley instead of getting money back. It makes a lot of sense.

No, but you could go with the fake injury and stick his ass on the DL for the rest of the year.

2 years ago would have been the offseason before the Cubs won 97 games, but I can see why he should have been canned...

Yeah, I think we should judge the whole season by basing it on 3 games. They were good enough to win 97 but couldn't win 3. Luck or cold streaks had nothing to do with it at all...

Also, you're blaming Hendry on the Cubs going 3 and out in the playoffs? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

You're damn right I'm blaming it on him. He spent a shitload of money and made a bad team good. Big fuckin deal. What great GM's do is take that good team and make it great. Hendry has proven he's not capable of doing that. The fact he still has a job is a fuckin joke.

Look, I'm not a Hendry apologist. I think he's a middle of the road GM, and frankly would be upset if he got fired. But to blame him for a team going 3 and out in the playoffs after winning 97 games is just not a smart thing to do.

Exactly my point. How about they focus on the team? WTF have the Cubs done this offseason?
