Rosner claiming David Sterns comments about the NBA looking at gambling as a future source of revenue.

Rosner claiming that is David Stern's way of saying, we are looking at a team in Las Vegas! Then he claims the NHL follows.

I got my sources that say the real closest to that happening is MLB! Very realstic chance of that happening as well. So much that the plan is in place, ready to go, if MLB would grant them a team.

I wondered that myself. It raised a question for me:
Is BigFan ever in the wrong section?
I think if you have trolls, the obvious answer is no. BigFan apparently is in seek and destroy troll mode.

I appreciate your comments BF but there is not a chance in hell that we are ready to take on a pro team out here in the next 10 years. Baseball, basketball, football or hockey wouldnt stand a chance unless you have a perennial winner. For example, the shitty football team of UNLV draws only around 20,000 per game!! We do have minor league hockey and baseball teams which draw ok. Oh year, the UFL team drew about 5,000 per game!! If people really loved these sports, wouldn't they sell out most of the time?? There are too many distractions out here with the 24 hour gaming, drinking and strip bars/hookers. Plus for baseball and football you would need a retractable dome which would cost big bucks. The resorts/casinos would NEVER be on board because they want to keep tourists in there casinos. Thats my take, iam out!!

Why would they look to expand in one of the most economically depressed towns in this country?

All Vegas teams would have a huge home advantage. Could you imagine the Saturday and Sunday day game record of visiting teams?

That's why I thought it would be perfect for football... for all the northern towns with road games in Vegas, you'd be able to sell the place out. I know I would consider going to Vegas to watch the Bears play... you could fly in on Friday night, gamble, sleep some on Saturday, gamble, then watch the game Sunday, gamble a little bit, then fly back home in time for work on Monday. It would get you out of the cold bad weather climates in November/December also.

I can't disagree with you there newper. I guess i was looking at the fans locally out here. Sounds like the tourists would be the key to selling tix.

I would expect a different response these days, but as of 2 years ago, from what I heard directly from the people involved this was SET. Some big money players in the Chicago area had an agreement with Mayoir Goldman to get a dome built, similar to The BOB, if they got MLB to grant them a franchise in Vegas.

At the same time, they were told to sit back and wait as they could not even come close to the poltiical clout pressuring MLB to create the Nationals. 3 Major poltiically backed groups wanted the Nationals in Washignton.

Even though MLB knew 100% it was the wrong thing to do and the attendance would suck, they owed way too many favors for this one.

If you remember who chaired this "Franchise/Relocation comimitte?" Yes, Jerry Jerry Jerry- and who sat first row behind the dugout on opening day with the VP and Speaker of the house? Jerry R?

And who got $7 Million in "consulting fees" evaluating stadiums for the franchise candidates? Mike Reinsdorf.

I dont know the exact status of Vegas city funds these days, but I am sure Mayor G would have a huge battle these days to use city funds to even build a skate park, yet alone a baseball park for $600 million.

You are spot on BF. There has been a big to-do about building a new city hall in downtown LV, Goodman has had some real strong opposition on this project. A professional team is a longshot out here because the casino/resorts want to keep people on their properties gambling.

The Casinos would still get plenty. They would get some people planning weekeneds around their teams playing. Chi, Boston, Dodgers, NY, AZ, SF, SD.

Now these weekday night games might not be so crowded. Tuesday Night Tampa v Vegas. Buy1 ticket get 3 free!

I know the NBA has done studies on having a team there.

What's the difference between having a team there and having UFC/Boxing and a multitude of other shows?

I'd love to be comped at the Excalibur for playing 6 hours of $5 blackjack with two seats to the Chicago Bulls vs. the Las Vegas Degenerate Gambler Cocaine Addicts.
