Lynch stepped down as Cubs GM after 51/2 years at the helm in July 2000. Lynch's Cubs reached post-season in 1998, but they were swept by the Atlanta Braves in the best-of-five National League Division Series.
The former New York Met and Cubs right-hander remained with the Cubs as a scout until November as their Arizona scout. He also helped Team USA, scout minor leagues to put together the gold-medal winning World Cup roster.
Under Lynch, the Cubs had a second-place finish, a third, a fourth, a fifth and a last-place finish in the NL Central under Lynch's tenure, which saw two winning seasons, compiling an over-all record of 413-472.
Lynch was hired by the Cubs to replace Larry Himes, after a year as the Mets special assistant to executive vice-president of baseball operations and worked three years as director of minor leagues for the San Diego Padres.
