Ok,7-9 following a 9-7 season. I think for what Lovie was given to work with not just this season but the last 2 seasons ,a .500 record is more then respectable. IF the Bears bring him back,it would not be the worst decision in the world. I'm just afraid some new guy will come in and totally dismantle the roster which I can see leading to a 2-14 disaster. I think the best decision the Bears can make is bringing in a Bill Cowher,but I doubt they will do that. The next best decision would be to hire an untested guy (my 1st pick:Jason Garret (Cowboys Off. co-ordinator),2nd pick Leslie Frazier (Vikes Def. co-ordinator),Dark Horse: Bears Sp. Teams coach Dave Toub.

If I knew we would hire Cowher, I would say fire Lovie and staff right now. But if it means getting Rivera or Frazier, I would just as soon bring Lovie back for another year.

The thing is, Angelo would not give Lovie a vote of confidence, which is very telling. Like I said a few weeks ago, if Jerry is smart he will realize that the best way for him to extend his employment with the Bears is to replace Lovie, thereby giving himself a few more years while the new regime takes shape. If Jerry supports Lovie, he will surely be gone after next season.
I have a funny feeling that something is brewing & Lovie may just get fired. Tomorrow would be nice!

How could you not take Cowher over Lovie?

He would be a terrible hire, he doesn't have a trademark scheme that has made them good, he has some exceptional players and their success has stopped and started with their play. When the williams wall and allen and winfield play well, they dominate, when they are hurt or have an off week then they suck.

If Angelo can make a case to Philips & the McCaskys for brokering a deal to get Cowher, I think he can save himself. I would prefer that they both go, but it is obvious that Angelo has been distancing himself from Lovie for the last Month or so. For what other reason would he distance himself from Lovie if not to fire him so he can hitch his wagon to the next coach?
GM's fire head coaches all the time & most of the time it is so they can save their job.

Taco Bell does have a low fat menu. Actually their "Drive Thru Diet" is a pretty clever marketing campaign. They are trying to replicate the success Subway has had promoting their sub sandwiches as healthy, but TB has drive thru's, Subway doesn't...at least I don't think they do.
Regardless, I am still gonna order the Volcano Burrito as it is the best fast food item in the history of fast food.

DETROIT -- Lovie Smith is not scheduled to face the press on Monday at Halas Hall as he will be in a meeting for the majority of the day with general manager Jerry Angelo and members of the Bears' hierarchy.
Players will be able to talk about their 7-9 season as they clean out their lockers following exit interviews, but there will be no indication on the future leadership of the organization.
It is expected that Smith will return for a seventh season in 2010, but nothing is guaranteed at this point. This time, though, the Bears will conduct in-of-season meetings before assessing the year. Team officials said to expect a press conference early in the week -- probably Tuesday or Wednesday -- at which point club leaders will address the future.

Keeping Smith from meeting the media on Monday will prevent him from having to answer more questions about his coaching staff before he can answer questions about his own status. He was pressed on offensive coordinator Ron Turner this afternoon at Ford Field, and balked.
"Right now, today, what we are concentrating on as much as anything is our big win,'' Smith said. "Do changes happen? Every year changes happen. We realize that is a part of it. But we are enjoying this right now."

Oh that's easy to explain. Rivera was a part of the 85 team; and in many fans eyes; that immediately makes him credible as phenomenal coach. Anything any member of the 85 team does; from brain surgery to radio commentary; the fans believe they can do no wrong.
