If Marinelli is in as Defensive Coordinator, this guarantees Lovie is back next year.

Word is upon hearing of this decision, Lovie Smith tried to throw the red flag at Angelo to challenge it.

Did he then take an ill-advised timeout?

aaaahhh,soTHAT was the problem:

ESPNChicago reports: Bears assistant coaches are learning their fate Tuesday morning at Halas Hall. One of the first casualties is tight ends coach Rob Boras, who has been fired, according to a source.

Lots of ex lion HC love today. First Rod gets promoted to d coord and now Mornhinweg is a possible strong HC candidate in Cleveland. Is wayne Fontes still alive?

If there is one thing worse than wanting to emulate the 2008 Broncos it is actually emulating the 2008 Detroit Lions.

Any way we can fire Jerry and replace him with Matt Millen?

Yup. Joe Cullen...the guy from the Lions with 2 DUI's, & the guy who was caught going through a fast food drive thru at 2:00AM completely naked.
And Lovie has another one of his yes Men taking over the Defense.
Once again this proves my earlier comments about the horrible leadership at the Bears. Shame on the McCaskeys for allowing this farce to occur.
Somewhere Lovie Smith is laughing his ass off...

So let's get this straight:

1st - Hire Rod Marinelli to be the D-line coach. The D-line sucked most of the year, so....
2nd - Promote Marinelli to D-coordinator.
3rd - Hire the drive-thru naked DUI coach from the lines to coach the D-line.

All the while, keep in mind that THE DETROIT LIONS DIDN'T WIN A DAMN GAME WHILE THESE MORONS WERE COACHING THERE!!!!!  :? :?

How the hell does this work?

Angelo: "I propose that we promote the crap that we have and hire some more crap to replace the crap we're promoting".

Sweaty Teddy: "Awesome. Let's go with it".

What we are watching is a series of business decisions that have been made, that have very little to do with improving a football team:

> Keep the incumbent head coach in place and not have to pay a guy not to coach
> Stay out of the big $$ Cowher sweepstakes, which would also include the firing of Jerry Angelo and replaced by Kevin Colbert
> Fire your coordinators to "appease" the public, and then replace them from within or with cheap substitutes (Martz?)
> Return the majority of your roster, with the exception of a few non-playing, high-priced stiffs (Pace, Vashar, etc.) - drive a lower cap number in 10 than 09
> Pocket the money from last year's #1 and this year's #1/#2 and snicker as you signed your QB to a very club friendly deal
> Hunker down for the remainder of the off season - blame the lack of a new CBA as the reason you can't sign any free agents and then hope there is a lockout in 2011 that changes the expense structure of running an NFL franchise

STOP SAYING MARTZ!!! I WON'T HAVE IT!!!!

So they are saying screw 2010, let's see what happens with the CBA, and then clean house. It's fiscally responsible and I can live with it if they clean house in 2011 and hire Cowher. 2010 is going to be rough.

I'm starting to understand the true nature of those advertisements... this is just a family business doing PR control... unfortunately, I thought I was watching a major market professional sports franchise...

The only danger to this scenario is that something similar happens next year that occurred the year before Champaign IIRC. The Bears somehow make the playoffs and this cast of goofs is kept for another 4 years.

You forgot about firing the TE coach, arguably the only position of strenght on the entire team.

Maybe they are going to hire Martz...they won't need a TE coach then.
