Dumb move by the Cubs! What about Phil Cavaretta or Stan Hack?
6 seasons by an ailing Hawk does not do it for me,but I like Dawson.

Reported by Chicago Tribunes' Fred Mitchell:
What's at stake for Andre Dawson if the Hall of Fame decides to depict him wearing a Cubs cap instead of a Montreal Expos cap when he is inducted?

Besides many more thousands of marketing dollars, Dawson has been promised by the Cubs to have his No. 8 uniform number retired if he goes into the Hall of Fame as a Cub, a source close to Dawson said on Sunday.

No word on whether the Cubs would follow through with retiring his number if Dawson is inducted as an Expo. He played his first 11 seasons in Montreal, and his next six with the Cubs, where he won the NL MVP award in 1987. He wound up his career with brief stops with the Red Sox and Marlins.

Maybe the Cubs should retire all numbers, just so they don't miss anybody.

Not as big of a deal as what's on NBC at 10/9c.

Speaking of NBC, Chuck is on for 2 hours tonight, 8-10.

Yes,it is a big deal! This ain't the friggin' White Sox building statues for mediocre ballplayers! Dawson had some nice years with the Cubs, but what about Phil Cavaretta who played 20 years for the Cubs with a average near 300,(I think) How about Bill Buckner,Jose Cardenal,Jim Hickman?

Dawson is a HOFer, none of the rest of those guys are.

What does that have to do with the Cubs and Dawson?

Harold Baines was a great hitter. The only medicore guys that have statues are the ones that honor the 2005 TEAM. No individual statue in US Cell is for a mediocre player.

Guys like Minnie Minoso & Carlton Fisk had some very good years with the Sox. I compare the careers of guys like Mark Grace & Phil Cavaretta on the Cubs. Also is Gabby Hartnetts number retired?

Jimmy, Dawson is a HOFer, it is not like the Cubs are talking about retiring Jerome Walton's number. Dawson is one of the best players to ever put on the Cubs jersey.

Is there a Robin Ventura statue yet? I wonder if there will ever be a Jack McDowell statue.

Carlton Fisk was a Red Sox. Did he play on the south side? No replies, please. I am being sarcastic.
