Just wondering... when Shanahan is eventually 14-18 two years from now, will you agree you(and everyone else) completely overrated him?

BTW, like I said, you're alright with me.

If Shanahan does go 14-18 the next two years, he will still be the 2nd winniest coach among active NFL coaches, & he'll still have 2 Super Bowl rings. Shanny has more wins than Dungy, Ditka, Fisher, Madden, Walsh. & Lombardi.
Tom Landry went 10-21 in his last 2 years with the Cowboys. Bill Cowher had a two year stretch where he went 13-19. Does that make them bad coaches & negate all of their career accomplishments? Certainly not. By the way, Landry & Shanahan both won the same number of Super Bowls...2, & both have the same winning percentage, .600. Cowher has one Super Bowl ring & a .623 winning percentage.
Every great coach has a few lousy seasons. A couple of down years don't take away their previous success or accomplishments.

So, should the team who wins the Super Bowl be presented with the Mike Shannahan trophy?

Right. I used a similar argument in defense of Lovie(Who I do not think is as good a coach as anyone you mentioned. Although Shanahan is not much better IMO).

So what will it take for Shanahan to finally convince you he's not a good coach? Would he have to complete all 5 years in Washington without winning more than 8 games a year? Do you think Joe Gibbs is still a great coach? Would Parcells still be a great coach?

I have no idea if Shanny can still coach. We''' find out. All I am saying is that no matter what happens in Washington, nothing can take away his career accomplishments, which are comparable to many coaching greats.

I think Shanahan is a good coach, but if he go's 14-18 the next two years, that has to be considered a big disappointment.

Not once have you ever heard me diminish his career accomplishments. They are what they are. He's not a good coach right now, and hasn't been for awhile.

We dont know if Shanny can still coach. Could Tom Landry still coach when he went 10-21 his last two seasons?

I dont know. I wasnt an avid follower of the NFL then. I dont ever think Shanahan was all that great of a coach. He certainly WAS a good coach. He just happened to be coaching the right team at the right time mostly though. Kinda like Brian Billick, Barry Switzer, Jon Gruden, etc.

Jon Gruden would have had two different teams in back-to-back Super Bowls if it wasn't for the stupid tuck rule that cost them the NE game when he coached the Raiders.

They still would have had to go into Pittsburgh the next week.

True, but I do remember thinking the Raiders were the team to beat that year in the AFC. And the year after that, they did make it to the Super Bowl and lost to Gruden's Bucs.
