When I got home last night, I wasn't able to connect to the internet via my wireless router. However, the computer showed that it was connected to the route, but I wasn't able to get out to the internet. When I hardwired direct from the Comcast modem to my PC, still nothing. When I try to repair the connection, this box comes up:

So, not sure what to do. Was on the phone with Comcast for about an hour yesterday and they couldn't help. Not sure if its the modem or the PC. Any help would be appreciated.

I should preface:

I've power cycled everything at least 3 times. All wires and everything seem to be connected and in order. Not sure what happened as I was online Tuesday night and got home yesterday to nothing. Again, it appears that the computers that have the wireless USB adapter are indeed connecting to the router, but for whatever reason the modem is not connecting to the internet. Comcast was able to ping my modem, so its an issue with the modem to the computer I think?

I had that problem before and had to do a hard reboot on the router. Try disconnecting all cables from there and powering down. If that doesn't work, I wouldn't be shocked if part of the crappy comcast equipment is fried. If that is the case, my advice is to do what I did and go to Comp USA and buy my own equipment. Its actually pretty easy to set up, and will save you equipment rental fees from Scamcast every month.

I've had internet troubles the last few days. The person Im stealing wireless from in the building has to register something with their Comcast Account to proceed further. Every time I open up my browser, it goes automatically to a Comcast Screen that's telling me to enter my account number and info. Whoever I am stealing internet from is a lazy fuck cuz I havent had a connection at home since Sunday. Im having Xbox Live withdrawls.

If Comcast is able to PING the modem then it's not the modem - maybe a bad wire from the modem to the router but that would be far down the troubleshoot list. I would, and I know you have said that you have this, unplug the router and let it sit. Have it wired up again with the PC, Modem and Router off and try to turn it on again with Modem first, then PC, then router.

I used to have problems with my IP address for some reason at comcast also. Havent had that issue in forever though. Call comcast or maybe someone here can help you, reset your IP address. I cant for the life of me remember how to do it, but your IP address might not be taking for some reason and you need to do one simple step to reset it. I know there is a way to do this where the modem will read it again. Ask around

If this is the issue try,
Go to a Command Prompt
type ipconfig /release
this will release your ip
If you router is setup for DHCP (auto-assign an IP address), type ipconfig /renew
this will assign your PC a new IP.

I think I vaguely remember doing this once before.

Thanks everybody!

That means the bill hasn't been paid. Sadly, I'm all too familiar with that screen.

It's back up. The deadbeat came through.
